Laura: Right, Kody, you're up against Archangel.
Kody: Crap! I'm doomed. I think I have some decent tactics, though.
Laura: ...and what are your tactics going to be?
Kody: Well, I think I'll just keep box-rushing into it using the rear wedge and hope for the best... but I still think I'm going to come out in several pieces.
Laura: Haha. Well, good luck.
Kody: Yup.

Sort of a reverse wedge design with a nasty flywheel that weighs 25kg and spins at 2200RPM! Can you say, YIKES!? However, it DOES have a weakness which is the fact that it has NO SRIMECH!

From Geddington, in Northamptonshire, Archangel of the Abyss!
It hasn't got this far into the competition in previous tournaments; good robot, though.

Laura: Right, Alex. How do you feel about making it this far?
Alex: Well, I'm very nervous, but I think I have a good chance.
Laura: Brilliant. Now you're up against... Tira 3.
Alex: It should be pretty easy, but you never know. Therefore, I will spin up and kill it ASAP.
Laura: All right, good luck in the arena.
Alex: ...as if I need it.
Laura: Hahahaha!

A massive cylinder... on steroids, with two flywheels that spin at tremendous speeds, and this can cause some major damage if it comes into contact with another robot. However, as usual, 12mph top speed is not REALLY the fastest by a long shot.

Roboteers, Stand By...

Booth 1: Tira 3
Booth 2: Archangel

3... 2... 1... ACTIVATE!

So, this battle is to determine who fights Intrigue in the Grand Final. However, the bad news is that if Tira 3 wins, Kody will have to drive BOTH robots. Anyway, Tira immediately zooms away and shows its rear wedge to Archangel's spun-up flywheel!
CRASH!!!!
OH! Both robots get spun away, but no real damage is caused to either of them. Now, both robots spin up, and they collide with massive force! Tira 3 again, is using the rear wedge to deflect the blows!
CRASH!!!!
...and both bots get spun away there, but now, Tira 3 rams into Archangel again... BEFORE IT GETS UP TO SPEED!!! It's got a hold of the FBS from Geddington! Now, it tries to use its vertical flywheel on Archangel!
CRASH!!!!
WOAH!!! Sparks fly, and Archangel is flipped onto its back, but now it self rights. Good attack there by Tira, and equally good defense shown by Archangel. However, Tira isn't done yet, it wants some more of Archangel! So, it drives its rear wedge again into Archangel's fully spun up ring!
CRASH!!!!
.., both bots spin madly, but now, Tira's rear skirt has been slightly bent! However, it still runs smoothly so it's okay. Kody now charges Tira 3 at Archangel again with the rear!
CRASH!!!!
The forecast calls for immense showers of sparks! Tira gets spun away again due to the massive impact! Now, the skirt is bent even more, and there is a gash in the titanium armour! Now, Archangel spins up and Tira presses the pit button! The pit goes down now and, using the rear wedge again, Tira slams into the spun-up flywheel of Archangel, but it gets away just in time! Archangel is looking for a weak spot in Tira, and it slams into the side at full speed AHEAD!
CRASH!!!
OH!!!! The side skirt is bent out of shape! Archangel will score points for that if it goes to a judges decision. Now, Tira is getting pummelled here by Archangel. Both of its skirts have been totally bent; oh dear. Tira gets its rear end into play again, and tries to attack Archangel! Archangel, in turn, is trying to avoid the rear and go for the sides but...
CRASH!!!!
Both robots go spinning out of control, and look! Tira's rear skirt... is almost coming off its sockets, there! Tira might bite the dust here, I'm afraid. Archangel now spins up again, and trundles away to find TIra! Tira is still managing to hold on in there, though, and now it tries to crash into the FBS using the rear again! Oh no... this does not look good...
CRASH!!!
...and the skirt is ripped away by Archangel, there! The skirt lies helpless on the ground, and now, I think that Archangel has won this one, but Kody wants to prove that wrong! It goes on the attack again, this time with the front flywheel of doom... before Archangel gets up to speed!
CRASH!!!!!
OH!!!! Showers of sparks litter the arena floor! However, Archangel is still alive and kicking, so that isn't too much of a worry. Archangel spins up, and avoids that front disc, and crashes into Tira's side again! Tira tries to get away...
CRASH!!!!!
ZOMG!!! Tira is spun out of control again, and the skirt that was damaged earlier is now ripped away! Oh dear... not a good day for Tira 3, this. However, you've got to give Kody Kunz all the credit here for the valliant effort that he made to defeat Archangel... and Tira is running in circles with nowhere to go, and now Archangel comes in for what looks to be the final blow!
CRASH!!!!
Tira 3 is spun away, and crashes into the side wall... and Tira is not moving at all now. The attack must've dislodged something internally. Oh dear. The audience sure thinks Tira has been immobilized, and they start counting the Canadian discbot out!
10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... OUT!!!
Oh NO! Tira is out of the competition, and now, Archangel spins down, and tackles the beaten Tira into the pit! BOOM!

Tira 3 is terminated. Kudos to Kody for the valliant effort he made, but we all know that...

3rd Place Playoff: Tira 3 VS E Clawdius Unum

Tira has the advantage here. Those skirts prevent the Roman beast from getting under to crush, so I say Tira gets 3rd place.

GRAND FINAL: INTRIGUE VS ARCHANGEL OF THE ABYSS

There is no way for Intrigue to win. Archangel to add another tourney to its collection.

Well that was obvious. If one of my bots goes through, it's a dead ringer that the other goes out.

Tira III vs. E Clawdius Unum

Flip it over with the disc and attack whatever it uses to self-right, so it can't self-right. Obviously avoid the front of it. GL Steve-O.

Intrigue vs. ArchAngel of the Abyss

Nice to see Mark has such faith in me. :P Aw, who cares about him anyway.

Well, to counter the usual Alex Holt vagueness of tactics for ArchAngel, being spin up and kill, I'll simply reply don't let him spin up. To enlarge that reply, I'll box-rush and slam into him before he can spin up to a decent killing speed, then grapple hold with the axe and push him into the pit. Even if I can't get a good hold with the axe, he really won't be able to get himself off my wedgy-forks. And besides, he won't be able to move fast enough to have a go at my sides, so I can keep the front pointed at him. If the front goes, I'll have to use the rear, which is more or less identical. I also won't use the axe until he's stopped spinning. But the main tactic is pit, pit, pit, PIT, WARGH! Don't let it go to a judges decision, PIT.

Good luck Alex, should be a thriller.

Tira may be faster and more manoueverable than I am, but that just gives me the control advantage. Aim for Tira's corners, scrape under the skirts with my blades and tuck into that titanium armour. Kody says himself in the stats that Tira's armour is 'average', so I don't doubt that Clawdius will be able to chew it up a treat. Grab, chomp, dump in Pit.

I'd wish Kody good luck, but I doubt he'll actually need any. :P

Dan O'Hagan: Before we start the 3rd Place Playoff and the very grand final, it's time to give credit to the other roboteers who competed.

Best Design: There were many good designs here and lots of creativity. However, this award goes to Archangel of the Abyss. This two layered spinner bashed and crashed its way into the Grand Final with 2 flywheels that can cause an excessive amount of damage. Congratulations to Alex Holt.

Most Original Design: Well, this robot made it through to the semi finals with its spinning drum. Also, being able to protect its wheels with spinning hubs, I felt, was extremely phenomenal. Congrats to Kody Kunz and Aftershock.

Best Engineered Robot: This just had to be given to one robot had the best ingenuity. Whirligig wins this award, the destructability factor was huge which made it crash and bash its way into the semi-finals. Congratulations to Steve.

Sportsmanship Award: Everyone played nice, but this award actually goes to Martijn Benschop. Congrats Martijn.

Best Battle: Well, some of you may disagree with this, but the best battle until now, was actually Whirligig VS Archangel of the Abyss.

So, those are your awards for Robobash Series 1.

So this battle is to decide which one of these robots gets third place. Tira 3 immediately spins up, and now, E Clawdius Unum tries to catch up to it, but Tira 3 keeps getting away, there... or is it? Uh-oh, this doesn€™t look good€¦ Tira crashes into the side of Clawdius now!
CRASH!!!
WOAH!!! Sparks fly and Clawdius is tossed away, and the right side skirt is totally wrenched out of shape! Tira€™s flywheel is starting to wreak havoc already, here! Clawdius self rights, and now, using the front prongs, it gets underneath the side of Tira and clamps it down with the crusher! Now, it drags it over to the pit button, and the pit goes down! But Tira gets away somehow, and spins up again! Uh oh, now Kody is driving Tira right into Clawdius€™s other side!
CRASH!!!
OH!!!!! Srimech ahoy! There goes one part of the self-righting system, and now, Clawdius€™s self-righter is disabled on one side! It€™s able to move freely however, and continues going on the attack! Now the front forks on Clawdius try to get underneath Tira, and they do! Tira is trying to get away, and it does just in time before the crusher goes down! Now, it spins up, and now it crashes into the side of Clawdius!
CRASH!!!
OH!!!! The side skirt that was previously damaged is now ripped clean off its sockets, and now Clawdius tumbles onto its side, and luckily it wasn€™t the side where the srimech got disabled. Now, Clawdius self-rights, and Tira spins up again. Clawdius tries to get underneath Tira€™s side, but Tira seems to be too swift for the Glasgow machine! Now, Tira crashes into the other side to disable the other srimech! Clawdius tries to get away, but€¦ guess what happens.
KERRASH!!!
OH-HO!!! Clawdius€™s other part of the srimech is disabled, and to be honest, I think that Tira 3 has won this battle. Clawdius is on its side, and unable to right itself. Steve has put down his controls now and makes an X with his arms. OH dear. The countdown is on!

Laura: Alex, this is the time to prove that you are worthy enough to be the champion. Can you beat Intrigue?
Alex: I'd like to give it my best shot, it won't be easy though because it is a good robot, no doubt about that. If I go down to it, I'll not be disappointed, because Kody has worked extremely hard to get this far.
Laura: What are your tactics going to be?
Alex: Spin up ASAP, and if Kody tries to rush at me, keep driving away until I reach full speed, and then kill it if I can.
Laura: All right, good luck out there.

3... 2... 1... ACTIVATE!!!!

Silence has stormed the arena, as the first ever grand final of RoboBash gets under way. Now, Intrigue charges at Archangel, but Archangel tries to get away! Intrigue continues chasing-- hahahahaha, dear oh dear-- what are they doing here? Playing cat and mouse? Anyway, Intrigue stops the spinner somehow, and rams Archangel into the side wall!
CRASH!
Archangel gets a faceful of polycarbonate, and tries to spin up again! Now, the upper flywheel has spun up almost instantaneously, and the lower flywheel has reached 3/4 speed, but nonetheless, it crashes into Intrigue violently!
CRASH!!!!!
OHH!!! The flywheel comes into contact with Intrigue and sparks fly uncontrollably! Now, Intrigue gets away, but look! There is a scratch in the 9mm Titanium armour of Intrigue! Very well done by Archangel, that will earn them points for the judges. Kody drives Intrigue towards the Geddington machine, and immediately, Intrigue has stopped the spinner from spinning up to speed temporarily, and the axe comes down!
WHACK!!
OH!!! That caused a nice dent in the top of Archangel, but no internal damage has been caused. Archangel gets away and starts spinning up yet again, and Intrigue is chasing it around! Now, Archangel reaches full speed, and crashes into Intrigue once again, just barely avoiding a hammer blow!
CRASH!!!!!!!
The flywheel causes massive amounts of sparks flying out of control, and Intrigue has another dent in the armourment! However, there is no internal damage thanks to the wonderful shock proofing. Kody is doing the best that he possibly can to win this battle and Alex isn't doing so bad himself, too. Now, can Kody add another major win to his list for Intrigue? I know that he fought in EOTR 4 and won it--
WHACK!!
... and it looks like he's going to do it again! Archangel receives another hammer blow from Intrigue, but again, no internal damage is caused to it. Extremely well-done attack there by Kody Kunz, and an equally good defense by Archangel! Now, it's a question of who survives in the Grand Final! Kody again rams Archangel into the wall!
WHAM!!
Archangel gets a faceful of polycarbonate again, and this is a tremendous Series 1 Final Battle so far, with two great robots! Now, Archangel gets away from the wall, and tries all it can to avoid Intrigue before it spins up! Now, the two flywheels of Archangel have finally spun up, and now, it barely avoids the perilous axe of Intrigue, and comes crashing into the axebot!
CRASH!!!!!
WOAH!!!! Another set of sparks fly and now, Intrigue presses the pit button, and Archangel is trying its best to stay away from the pit of doom! Now, Intrigue just slams itself into Archangel's spun up flywheel, hoping to stop it from spinning!
CRASH!!!!!!
Both bots go spinning out of control, and now, Kody drives Intrigue into the spinner once again, and Intrigue gets underneath it... this could be it for Archangel, and now, it drags Archangel towards the pit... and now, can it push the spinner into the pit? It tries to fire its axe... BUT WAIT A MINUTE! Archangel JUST BARELY gets away by the skin of its chinny chin-chin! Now, Alex sighs with relief, and spins up Archangel's flywheels, and now... Intrigue tries to get under Archangel again, but Archangel tries so desperately to get away! Now, both robots collide with each other with massive force!
CRASH!!!!!
What a collision! Sparks fly again, but that 9mm Titanium armour on Intrigue is holding up very nicely against the two flywheels of Archangel, only scratches and just a few dents, as well, but nothing that critical. Very good defense, I must say, but now... time is ticking down, and there are only 30 seconds left! These robots are still duking it out, and what a final this has been! Now, Archangel tries spinning up again, and tries getting away from Intrigue, and now, Intrigue and Archangel are both playing cat and mouse again! Now, both robots go head to head on a massive collision!
CRASH!!!!!
Damage is caused to Intrigue; another scratch has been made, and what a final this has been! I've never seen anything like this before! Now, Archangel and Intrigue chase each other around and Archangel gets hit by the axe of Intrigue before it has a chance to spin up!
WHACK!
That made another dent in the armour of Archangel, and now, Archangel spins up again, and Intrigue chases it around the arena! Now, Archangel spins up and it continues valliantly to come in on the attack! The flywheel comes into contact with Intrigue's front wedge!
CRASH!!!!
WOAH!!! Sparks fly and Intrigue is spun away! This is a terrific tussle we're seeing here! Now time is running out...
10... 9... 8...
Archangel... now trying to spin up again, and Intrigue is chasing it around!
7... 6... 5... 4...
Archangel tries its best to stay alive in this battle, and spins up the flywheels-- BUT WAIT A MINUTE! Intrigue has gotten underneath, fires its axe, and edging it towards the pit once again! Can Intrigue do it, I wonder?!
3... 2... 1...

CEASE!

NNNNO! Both bots run out of time and it goes to the judges!

*Replay shows highlights of the battle*

Sam: Woooo.... tension is in the arena tonight... the judges have made their decision.... you know the criteria, on style, control, damage and agression... and... they have gone for the first champion of RoboBash... but it's time to ask the audience who they think have won. (To the crowd) Hey, if you think Intrigue won, MAKE SOME NOISE!!!

*CROWD CHEERS LIKE HELL*

Sam: If you think Archangel won, MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!

*CROWD CHEERS LOUDLY*

Sam: Well, it's hard to decide for me who won, but we do have a judges decision. It says that on damage, Archangel won. Now, on the control, style and agression, Intrigue won. HOWEVER, the damage caused to Intrigue by Archangel... was slightly a bit more greater. Anyway, they've given it to the first Champion of RoboBash....

Alex: Yes, indeed.
Sam: I can't believe you won it.
Alex: Neither can I, because I thought I was simply a goner; when Intrigue dragged me towards the pit, I thought I was finished!
Sam: Haha. Now, tell me, what do you think was your most memorable fight ever?
Alex: Well, I loved all of them, but particularly the battle with Sithis, where I conked it out within a few hits.
Sam: Great job on winning the title. We love having you, and we hope you can come back again.
Alex: Oh yes I will.
Sam: All right then! Could we give a big hand to the champion, ARCHANGEL!!!!!!
(CROWD CHEERS AGAIN)
Sam: ... and now, to present you with your trophy, is the magnificent LAURA KERFOOT!
Laura: *Hands trophy to Alex* Congratulations!

Nope. Of course an overkill spinner has to win. :P

That said, 2nd ain't all that bad. Well done to Sam for doing this all the way through, no really! All those hypos and bull going on, and Samuel didn't even lightly turn to hypotheticals himself; now that's dedication. And of course well done to Alex for winning and spiritually avenging Achilles. :P

Also, all my bots are seeded. That is quite hilarious. No doubt who my team is gonna be next series, eh? XD

I'll take a reserved spot for RoboBash 2, Sammy boy, need to defend the silver medal and possibly go one step higher, hmm?

Ouch. That probably could've gone better for ol' Clawdius. Hey ho, fourth place is nothing to be sniffed at.

Kudos on the very funky tournament, Sam. Seeing through a contest this big from beginning to end is no mean feat, especially in this day and age. Mark me down for series two. :wink:
