use sode stream bottles, you can just about buy them from anywhere eg. boots, asda, diy stores.

These bottle are tested to with stand 240 or 250bar which is 3 to 4 times the pressure they are normal filled to.

              Yes..Sodastreams are.
As are... to the best of my knowledge..Paintball and any fire extinguisher size.

Check out the rules for any recent changes...I seem to remember some rule change relating to the Sodastreams.

(I belive) but stand to be corrected.
you can use anybottle size if you want in roaming robots but RW only allow 2kg (x as many as you can get in)
so only 2kg bottles allowed realy x 2 if you can get them in

John the also allow 1.1kg bottles but they are quite hard to find. Also although they dont say it in the rules they do allow 600g bottles for featherweights.

But seeing as Robot Wars as we know it is over you can really use what ever bottles you wish.

                  Regards
                  Ian

                    Extract from the FRA Rules...

Except where the maximum storage pressure is less than 50 psi (3.4 bar). N.B. Some events may have further restrictions on bottle sizes/weights used please contact the event organiser for clarification

                        Flippers are great

Ive bought two 0.8 litre (20 fluid oz.) CO2 buffer tanks on Ebay - just search on CO2. You will find a range of bottle sizes, and quite a lot of choice. Those up to 20 fluid oz are for paintball applications, and the larger ones are usually fire extinguishers.

                            Flippers are great

                            John,
You can I believe use whatever size bottle you want ... BUT ... your only allowed 2 kg of free co2 ....the other 3 kgs will be considered part of your total bots weight at the weigh in.
This means that your bot must weigh in at 3 kg under the MAX weight limit.

BTW .... I have some 3.5 kg fire extinguisher bottles should you wish something a little smaller.

                              Flippers are great

Marco in Hades used a 3.5 kg bottle (5L volume) during the championship 2006.
But with a filled bottle the robot cannot be heavier than 102 kg (+ the 2% messuring error allowance)

Bottlesize in the FRA rules isnt an issue, only the suitability of the pressure vessel.

Commercialy available, certified for the used medium and a pressure limit imposed bij the rules of 70 bar/1000psi.

                              *********************************

The disadvantage of sodastream bottles is the fact they dont have an on/off valve, but a pin valve. Other problem is the kind of connector on the head of the bottle.

Paintball bottles can be bought with an on/off valve. Are available in handier formats and have an easier available connector and filling system.
