    Re: heavyweight ram bots?

I thing an invertible 4wd flipper could be a very good bot

It could be if it's built properly, but you would need to spend a lot of money on it.

i dont see why? with careful designing and with larger wheel size it should be easily done

What exactly have you built before? Can unfortunately imagine I sounded this yappy when I started, aged 11 -shudder-

            Re: heavyweight ram bots?

This is all very much just a nice idea, with my build skill I highly doubt I could put it in practice but it's really a unusual concept thy if someone wants to build they are mor then welcome

Well to start with, pneumatics are expensive so anything involving them will be fraught with expense and complexity. Also, if you're going for 4wd you'll need twice the number of motors, possibly twice the number of ESCs, possibly bigger batteries? That would be expensive too. Not sure how it will work weight wise either, adding all that extra stuff you may need to reduce the overall size of it, or armour thickness.

A low pressure pneumatic system hw sized can be built for less than £250 although can be quite complex but woody has an excellent page on his website that explains the dual quick exhaust valve method ( which I would recommend as this is a cheap way to get enough flow to flip people). 4 motors is not necessary as one motor can give drive to 2 wheels with use of chains, belts or gears

                  Re: heavyweight ram bots?

By the title of the thread I assumed it was going to be a ram bot with a pneumatic flipper element to it, so assumed that the 4wd you would be wanting would be ome that would be more powerful that a 2 motor system driving 4 wheels.

Also, I would call £250 expensive, maybe thats the Scots blood talking

                    Re: heavyweight ram bots?

it's alot less expensive than a fp heavyweight pneumatic system, my fp ram alone cost me more than £250

                      Re: heavyweight ram bots?

the thing with LP is you can get someone OOTA, it just takes more effot were as FP can do it fairly easily

LP is a good way to get experience with pneumatics and running it at LP is fine but a full FP is something I would probably set cash aside for every now and then till i can afford the upgrade.

Also, my faint plan was to run 2 motors on 4 wheels with a chain drive system linking them, so there is no need for larger esc's or batteries

i agreee, i started out with lp. great learning experience.

                          Re: heavyweight ram bots?

im guessing your going for something similar to Merlin? If so you wont get it in weight, the plan was for Merlin to move to 4wd, but that can only be done by spending money on either lems/Ti/Lithiums to get the weight and space. Also to get the power form a LP system you need a big ram (100x200) you wouldnt get a ram that size in something like Merlin. Unless your going for something bigger than Bosch 750s, theres no point going 4WD.

would you mind if i altered the original toxic into something based on merlin? LP system clearly though

One good example is USA bot Rammstein, sure it maybe a SHW but when they removed some of the batteries they were
light enough to enter HW competition, example War of Indepence series 4

i think something merlin style would be good since you dont see many flippers like that
