        Flippers

Can sometimes find them at your work as companies are slowly changing to the new eu colours!

Also try phoning a few fire extingusher companies could get a freebie!

Please note its better to get ride of the valve on the bottle as they are not designed to be used constantly like we use them. You can pick up and screw valve quite cheap that fits straight on.

          Flippers

Ive always thought that the front hinged flippers were a better idea than the rear hinged ones.

            Flippers

Any reason why you think that?

              Flippers

Because with front flippers, they guarentee flipping someone over, aka Firestorm. With rear flipper, you might not flip someone over, because the flipper is too powerful or something? See my point?

                Flippers

Yes but kevin if it is too powerful (i think that should be forceful but not 100%) then you could cause damage to another robot and not just roll them over were 100% of robots can either run inverted or self right. Also its very difficult to flip a robot oota with a front hynged flipper.

                  Flippers

Firestorm has done it a number of times. Plus, I dont really care if the robot does OOTA or not. A good example of a front hinged flipper V rear hinged one is from the season 3, Facet V Firestorm.

                    Flippers

Another good example from series 3 was Firestorm vs Chaos 2. I think Ive made my point.

                      Flippers

The reason why rear hynged wors better is the fact that to flip a bot with a front hynged flipper you need to get a fairway underneath them, with a rear hynged flipper you only need to be 2-3mm under neath and over they go.

                        Flippers

ian has hit the nail on the head (or is that flip it over )

A rear hinged flipper has the flipping tip (the edge which will travel the greatest distance) right under the opponent from the start whereas a front hinged flipper has to travel under the opponent to get the flipping tip even close to the opponent.

                          Flippers

Its not always true that you need to be 2-3mm under to flip someone over with a rear hinged flipper - sometimes that only lifts them up and then they skid off. Granted you dont need to be under as far but you still need to get under a good way.

Its happened to Mute a lot, rear hinged flipper gets under a few mil, fires and Mute slides off. Mute lands on its wheels to meet the rear hinge-er with its flipper in the air.

I say have the best of both worlds - fit a front and rear hinged flipper!

                            Flippers

To-shay, Dan. But doesnt fitting two flippers make each flipper less powerful? I know its different for you, but for more robots wouldnt having two flippers take away the power of each one. Like, one big flipper could be more powerful then two little ones.

                              Flippers

From my observations, neither type of flipper is better than the other, here are the advantages of each

                              Rear Hinged:
Dont need to get as far under to successfully flip
                              Better at getting bots OOTA
Could damage the opponent with a powerful enough flip

                              Front Hinged:
                              Easier to self right with
Innards protected if flipper jams open
Designed to flip opponents over, not upwards

                                Flippers

Hello. I am making some progress on my heavyweight and am looking for the parts for a flipper. Technobots no longer supply rams. Does anyone have any recommendations for a pneumatic ram or know of any for sale. Had a look on ebay but cannot seem to find anything suitable. If any one has got some pneumatics for sale or know of a good source it would be much appreciated. Many thanks Chris Teamtanglefoot
