    Spinner Weapon Motor Discussion

Im in the stage of designing a drum robot for 2006 . I have the basic design laid out. I was going to have drum endcaps at each side of the drum and bearings would be push fitted into the end caps . I also plan on using timing belts for the spinning of the drum . Can i have some suggestions on some motors that may be suitible for the weapon motor , i dont want to go overboard with something like astro 40 s or anything like that , just low cost but good performance .
Im also wondering about a motor that i bought off of ebay a few weeks ago , it is made by johnson and lloks like a mini ev but about twice as big and runs on 25v , anybody tried this motor ?

On Kishar we have 2 HTI motors running the disc at 24v. At the last event against Dragon 2 it bent the Hardox (4mm) side armour on Dragon 2. Oh and we are going to try 3 HTIs on Kishars disc which will give it around 4.3 hp hopefully in time for Magna.

          12v golds..... on 24v
very simple and easy, bit heavy, not that cheap at £25, but still...

or car fan motors, £5 from the scrapyard, on 24v you get serious power

Looks like a bog standard 850 sized motor to me. the 850 isnt twice the size of a mini EV though, it has virtually an identicle casing. They run ok at 12v, but Ive also tried at 18v - it smelt pretty bad then.

Go for an HTI or similar (24v drill motor perhaps?) if you have the space to gear about 4 or 5 to 1 (will get better torque/speed to weight ratio then), otherwise a lower revving motor like a gold/fan motor as James suggested would be good.

The Johnson i mention was about twice the size of a normal drill motor , and it even says 24V on the side or it , It is my luck that i have 2 24v drill motors that came from hammer drills that could be useful .

yeah car fan motors are usually quite good.

Alister, what happened to the pancake motor I sold you?

How many HTI motors do you guys burn out? We have 6 dead ones here.
I think you are better off going with mini-EVs. The are cheaper and when run off 14.4 volt they go just as well as a HTI. With the added bonus the you only need 14.4V worth of batteries which will save weight over 24V.
2 mini-EVs made Prancing Queen a damn scary robot. And the one in Vertical Limits is also impressive. They deffently have a much better combat record here then the HTIs.

As of now none. We run the HTIs from a astroflight speed controller. We have took readings of the voltage the motor pulls at different stick positions. We run it at 12v for most apponents but give it full stick for the robots with Ti or Hardox Armour. And up to now we have not burned a motor out.

yep, did you gt my reply?
they are trying to fob you off.
no house on my estate has a name, they are all numbered.
if they had left it with a neighbour there is a box on the delivery note to say so, never got one.
the motors had no address on them, so how were they delivered without the hardox? if sent specially they would have told us, or taken them to the po i picked the hardox up from.
and finally, if the neighbour has it, they do not need to pay up on the insurance.... thats why they are saying it. ask for the address off the neighbour, ask for a signiture, and ask for the time and date of this supposed delivery.
my neighbours know all about my robot stuff deliveries, and would have told me if they had anything, they always do.

they are trying to pull a fast one.
