  • Picture Request: Wooden robots inc. Block of Wood and so on.

I've been watching youtube again and have seen a wooden robot called Block of Wood. I've hunted down Johnny 2x4 and found a thread for that but have been struggling to find anything other than youtube vids of Block of Wood. I was interested just to see the structure and so on.

If there are any other wooden robots kicking about that you know of please may you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi Dave

My robot Loki has been/is currently made of wood although I have HDPE now and will be converting very soon. Here's some pictures, there's also some videos of it being tossed around the arena from Newport earlier this year.

          Hi

Glad Block of wood is still drawing attention

I used several different methods for the construction over the many version. When it first started out I used 2 layers, one which attached to the base plate vertically through bolts and the second attaching to the first (the armour)

Lasted many battles and was dead cheap to replace, in these version I was using 25mm plywood

the later versions and the one which still exists uses a combo of 100mm x 100mm wood and some 100mm x 50mm wood to make up the armour. all versions have used 25mm ply as the base and top. I still have a top cover plate signed by Jason and Otis from the Gadget show

          hope this helps

It does make a nice mess when the spinners hit it though

Thanks for the info Alex! Did you make your own wheels? And what kind of drivetrain / speedo did you use? (if it's ok to ask lol)

Oh wow they're awesome! They look as though they have a bulkheaded construction? Are the bulkheads screwed to the base?

They're really fast are they drill motor? Sorry for all the questions!!
