  • Buffer tanks...

    Hi,

We are currently in need in a lighter buffer tank, at the moment we are using a 20oz co2 bottle with a modified pin valve (thanks Will for telling us how to do it) and I was wondering what else we could use.

I saw that the big nipper team were using modified camping bottle that they got pressurised, so that may be an option, but personally I would like a bigger Buffer tank. So I was thinking of a foam fire extinguisher.

Does anyone know what the imput thread is on the bottle?

    Re: Buffer tanks...

    1. go down to your local scrap yard
    2. pick up a large quantity of old foam fire extinguishers for about a quid each, avoid rusty ones
    3. atleast one of them should have a thread close enough to a standard bsp thread for it to work, jam a fitting in and araldite in place

tips: bring a 1/2 bsp fitting with you and compare the od of where the valve enters the cylinder to the 1/2. this will give you a good idea if the extinguisher will be suitable. also avoid the really cheap disposable ones (easy to spot, they have plastic valves) as there is no screw part in them.

Worst case scenario. I could create one perfect fitting from Ti tube and end plates.

That may be a tad too expensive

I've got one here, about 0.85l volume, 230mm long in total (19cm without fitting) 70mm diameter. Working pressure 14bar with a 1/2 thread

You never know, a search on Ebay could yield you the right basic stuff.
Welding it up ain't that hard.

Ill have a look at the scrapyard and see what they have, if not Maddox your option would be ideal
