  • Argos drill motors

Just bought some Argos drills and took the drill apart to get the motor, but I wasn't sure exactly what I have to do to lock the 'clutch thing', I have seen the o ring method but havnt seen what you have to do to lock it with nuts/grub screws.

screw in 5mm m5 grub screws into 4 of the holes until you cannot turn the motor by hand

Does it have to be a grub screw or will a normal bolt work too?

            Re: Argos drill motors

i used some 6mm bolts cut down with a notch on the end so i could use a flat head screwdriver to get them in

How far in do you screw the gub screws?

                Re: Argos drill motors

you need to screw them in when you can just see plain metal down the holes

screw them far enough for the notches to just hit the grub screws and stop the plate rotating you still want a bit of movement but limited to like a 1/10th of a turn

                  Set screw = grub screw

Hijacking the thread. I've seen some roboteers taping the fan holes in the drill motors to not let anything in which is a good idea.
But I'm just wondering if you guys have seen any erffect on the performance of the motor or anything as it surely will get hotter?

I have screwed in 4 grub screw and now they just spin in their holes without going further in, yet I can still turn the motor with the screwdriver when screwing in the reverse screw. Does this mean that the clutch is not locked properly?

                        Re: Argos drill motors

The motor should spin when rotating the output shaft....your grub screws shouldn't turn.
