Not sure if I am going to use 9.6, 12 or 18 volt drill motors yet, but what would be the optimum voltage for these motors, I have heard that you should only overvolt by 50% is this correct. I will be running 100mm wheels

Re: Overvolting drill motors
In reality there isn't much point to overvolting drill motors as they are generally too quick as they are, however if you wish to overvolt a good rule of thumb to follow with all motors is to, as you said, run them at 150% of their rated voltage. This is by no means a guarantee that your motors won't burn out but gives you somewhere to start from.

Re: Overvolting drill motors
You'd be surprised at how fast drill motors go on their regular voltage. I generally don't bother overvolting them and just run them regular or if i do then run them with 50% or whatever on the sticks as they are too fast otherwise. Remember that 6mph is roughly 3 meters per second and the robot will get there almost instantly. That's a fair bit in an arena measuring 10m by 5m max or thereabouts
