    8!
    4 for a receiver pack.
    8 for a transmitter.
    Note rechargeable batts are 1.2v

    Transmitter, 9.6V
    Receiver, 4.8V

Any R/C model shop can provide you with what you need.

    Example .... http://www.ripmax.com/7index.asp?category=060-080&ItemsPerPage=100&selectedtab=060http://www.ripmax.com/7index.asp?cat...&selectedtab=0 60

OR ....Get rechargeable AA batteries and something like this .....http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemid=P-FBC10D/4&ItemsPerPage=100&selectedtab=060&Category=060-080http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemi...tegory=060-080...... you should then be able to recharge the batteries whilst they are in the transmitter or in the battery holder of the receiver.

The charging socket on the Transmitter connects ONLY to the internal batteries.

Buy one of these chargers or a similar R/C type.

                  so to sum up,

If you go for the single celled rechargable battery option you will need to remove them to charge.

If you go for the 8 cell nicad pack then you will be able to use the jacks with the transmitters and get a futaba or similar charger.

                    I disagree Gary.

If theyre rechargeable single cell batteries and in the transmitter then you can simply plug the charger into the transmitter jack socket.
