hmm i would agree if it was a straight ramming wedge but with the flipper i wouldn't.
I'd argue for a front hinged flipper that it would be worthwhile since the best effect with a flipper is when the opponent is at the end of the arm opposite to the hinge. Since in the case of a front hinged flipper, the opponent has to be somewhat wholly on the arm for it to work effectively, I'd think something to stop them flying off the other end of the arm would be worthwhile as an experiment at any rate.

that is a fair point, maybe a stop of but no hooks as they may also hook you opponent keeping them on the flipper

That'd work, just something to provide a extra half a second or something of the opponent being in the right place.

Thanks! Yes I might put added stoppers on the top of the flipper. As I said I didn’t really know how well the wedge would work - during this drive I never actually had Venator go right up over the top. I’m not sure how self-righting will go so I may end up putting something extra on for that and take out two birds with one stone.

The problem is that I’ve now realised the “precision parts” are like 80% of the linac. I will still go ahead with this other option as I would like a backup plan in case this doesn’t work out. But thanks, I might have an ask about and see if anyone is willing to help out. Feel a bit bad just dumping this on someone else tho.

Ok - time for another update as I am trying to keep this monthly!

Not too much progress to report on - unfortunately I didn't work on Strix at all for about 2 weeks at the start of the month due to personal circumstances. However I'm back on track now!

The rear panels are almost finished - need to cut out a hole for the link and also get some bolts of the correct length for the top. Strix is fully soldered up, the electronics are all mounted.
Also thinking I will need some sort of locking bar for the pits. Will probably just have a chunky steel plate with two bolts that go through the lid, with the plate hanging over the flipper.

So Strix is like 90% complete. Hopefully the next update will be a working flipper!

Anyway, enough blabber - here is some photos:

Also I finally discovered the render button in my CAD software. Kinda makes me want to get better at CAD - here is Strix with full paint-job:

I wouldn't be worried about getting trashed too much since it's a longer event & a knockout competition. If you get beat up so badly you can't continue the competition, with the free time & the other eliminated roboteers sitting around, you probably could get it up & running again by the time the tournament's over (unless you're super unlucky & get trashed in the rumble).

Strix is looking good! Would be nice to see it get picked. There weren't that many flippers at the last Insomnia.

Yeah I just realized you'd have less than 3 weeks until Colchester. Are you going to Robots Live in Stevenage or Extreme Robots in Chatham, they're both on the same weekend.
