Ideally you would sandblast the base and then paint/laquer it in some way but I am sure an orbital sander with some high grade paper on it would give a similar result.

Looking good though, simple design and it should be quite robust. Those GR01's will be locked down solid.

It looks really good but i'd actually be worried about the Gimsons been held in too sturdy as i believe some builders have had problems with shocks going straight into the gearbox as there's little/no flex to absorb some of the impact

Yeah I guess so. If they break, I'll deal with it then and there. Nothing much can really be done about it now.

Thanks for the suggestions Alex, in the end I just hit it with a sanding block and some elbow grease. Still a little ways to go.

          Also gearbox is semi together.

you can see gear and pulley related things happening here.

Got the gears to mesh fairly well. Gave it a blast on small 3s. I'm really pleased that this has somehow worked.

Harry, why did you choose an inrunner rather than an outrunner?
Surely an outrunner would have would have more torque

Because high speed. This meant I could really gear it down, I have like a 10:1 or so reduction in this so the end speed is reasonable (still too fast imo) and the weapon itself has plenty of torque which should give me respectable spin up. Inrunner also is more enclosed so I don't have to think so much about crap getting into the motor so much. Not that this is much of a problem?

Did some more work, got it driving. Loving the TZ85. Just got to play around with the mixer to get it to behave. Speed isn't too dreadful either.

                  Weight is looking okay too.

I want to. Got some ti sheet that would do nice. Not sure how to make sure the hinges are manly enough though.

And so they don't get hit up and get hit by the bar :P. Looking great Haz, looking forward to seeing it!

                            Hi Harry,

When I was running a Hazard style bot, I developed an alternative hinge that worked really well:

                            hinge.jpg

Its just a row of bolts along the edge of the armour that have a gap under the heads. by adjusting the gap under the heads, you can get the right amount of motion so that the armour rides over the floor seams but opponents can't get underneath. you will also need to make the mounting holes in the armour a bit over-sized.

In my case, two M8 cap head screws at either end of the armour plate worked for years.

Sweet idea Nick. I have been reading that 350 odd page thread of yours lately. Great stuff. I'll see what I can do wedge wise. I got a few 12.9 m8 capheads so they should hold.
