  • Pulverizer Build Diary

Hello, I am Mega Masher, and below are some pictures of my robot, Pulverizer. It is a melty-brain fullbody spinner that fits within the kilobot and beetleweight classes.

I am also building a featherweight version, but am unsure as to which motors i should go for. I need 1to2 horsepower and i would need 2 of them. Any replies welcome.

You the robot spins on the spot but can still translate across the ground whilst spinning?

What are the motors for? Drive?

You may be able to find something here... http://www.robotmarketplace.com/prod...tors_main.html

Once you know what you want you should be able to find it in the UK rather than ordering from the US. Though 2 HP is a lot of power!

Thanks for the reply, the motors would spin the robot around and by varying the speed of each motor in each rotation, it would be able to translate across the arena.

          Re: Pulverizer Build Diary

experimented with a melty brain a while back. Still got the single piece 10kg hardox disc i was planning on using for a chassis. Nice idea if you can get it to work.

You will need to be looking at something like a magmotor for that kind of power for a feather.

            speed 900s
            gr-02's
            try the robot market place
            http://mobile.robotmarketplace.com/motors_main.html
you don't really get 2hp motors+ gearboxes for under a few hundred pounds.
speed controllers are gonna cost you as well and for 2hp you will need quite some batteries.

Archie... no offense but... read the thread
Neither a Speed 900 or a GR02 are 2HP motors, or 1HP for that matter.
And RM has already been suggested.

Thanks for the response, much appreciated. What speed do you think it would be spinning at? It will hopefully be quite similar to what i saw of Hornet 3. Do you know where i could get some well priced hardox?

                  Re: Pulverizer Build Diary

I was aiming for between 500 and 1000rpm. Problem is that for the power you are either looking to something like a bosch 750, a bosch 400, iskra 800w, magmotor or even the cheaper ampflow motor.

For hardox I use JL steel services in Stirling. Great guys.

                    Re: Pulverizer Build Diary

I thaught we already said 2 hp is waaay too much.
sorry I just thought gr-02's and speed 900's we powerful enough.
                    that's right.
of course your gonna spend a few thousand pounds on ampflows some few hundred amp escs and then lifepo4's.
is it just me who thinks feathers have gone a bit too far?

I mean what do I know. I have posted over 700 posts of pure bull poo.

                      Re: Pulverizer Build Diary

1 to 2hp is the level of power you need for a melty brain spinner. The electronics are actually surprisingly cheap as it's all custom.

Sure some feathers are expensive, mine included but you can still win a competition with a drill motor powered machine.

                        Re: Pulverizer Build Diary

It can be done but money does help do a degree, although it works even better if you spend it correctly...

Anyway... this machine gives me a headache! http://www.teamvelocityrobotics.com/...ranslation.htm

That will melt your brain! And it only uses 1 motor for the whole thing!

                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YB_58rUY6A

Edit - Works like this... The entire bot spins with one wheel and it steers by rapidly turning the motor on and off at just the right point of rotation to cause it to drift in the direction the operator specifies.

Thanks for the replies, but do you think i should go for 1 or 2 wheels? Is this motor any good: http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-E30-150.html

again don't take my advice but they look a little underpowered.
should be quite nice for the price though.
maybe look for a more powerful one though if you want it like gary says.
