It's a Bosch, all Vauxhalls have them. Paid £1.

Speed 900s have a nominal voltage of 12v, but will run on 24v without much fuss. I imagine the replicas function the same.
As regards to fan motors use a Bosch 056, you can get it out of ford mondeos. 282w peak power at 12v, 1.6kgs in weight.Comment

the whole brushless setup will be £50- and will be light and small and efficient.
cheaper than speed 900s.
my dad found a car fan which worked but it was quite bad.

terible esc will probably bust into flame and melt as soon as you blink near it, and what looks to be a pretty sub standard motor for this purpose.
brushless is good, hell i am going to be using brushless in a fw but leave these things to people who know what they are on about(not in anyway saying i am one, not by a long shot
)

With brushless, you tend to get what you pay for. If a reliable and good-quality brushless setup cost just £39, then everyone would be using them. But they're not, which speaks volumes for the reliability and quality of the above brushless equipment. Maybe alright for planes (for which they are designed) but not for robots.
One downside with car fan motors is that they're second-hand and come in varying degrees of condition. But if you get a decent one, it will be as good a power source for a spinner as you can get. Dragonstrike uses them to good effect, and more recently (although briefly :wink: ) Bitza Mk.2.Comment

I did indeed. The cost was as follows:
Scorpion motor: £85
Hobbywing 150A ESC: £68
Lipo batteries (not an essential part, but it's hardly worth going brushless without them): £40
Total: £193 (£153 without lipos)
Not cheap but definitely not the most expensive setup around. The motor I used was a Scorpion HK4020-1100kV model that I got off an eBay seller, but he doesn't sell that specific model now. The closest model would be: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scorpion-HK-4 ... 470wt_1037
I think that's the same motor that 540 uses. The 4025 range has slightly more power than the 4020 model I'm using.

Recommended to me by Graeme from the Big Nipper team; they ran it in Buzzbar last year with a massive motor. Didn't once let me down last weekend and is still running well, although it is quite over-spec'd. It's got a low-voltage cut-out built-in so that you can protect your lipo batteries from over-discharging, as well as several other adjustable/programmable settings. Definitely a worthwhile purchase for anyone looking to go brushless.Comment

LS4 is running a HK-4035 Scorpion (around £120 on ebay) and (i think) a £180 ESC, then 2 5 cell lipos joined together permenantly to form one 10 cell, then the 10 cell charger on top of that... around £400-500 depending on where you get it all from.
I was thinking of going brushless next year but I have bigger issues to solve atm, like raising my disc up and stopping my Speed 900's from going up in a big plume of acrid smoke.
