    Ok,

Laser 2 atm won't work, so it needs alot of changing.

The sabertooth 2x25 is almost dead now. we have been having problems with it since we went to 4wd, at Worthing we blew one side of it and the other works when it wants. So it needs changing.
We're going to change it to a scorpion xxl v.2 with a fan and enclousure.

The lifter mech is'nt up to the job. It broke twice at worthing the second time just messing around(thanks Haz ). The bearing mounted at the front broke after being flipped by whirlwind and landing on the fipper. So we need to make a sufficent mounting.
The other problem is that we were grinding the thread down on the m8 threaded rod untill when I tried to lift Murphys law I stripped the thread in one part and bent the rod. So we need to get a car jack and take it appart.
We are also going to make a circuit so that the lifter will have limit switches and wont destroy itself.

do you know the overall size of the car jack?

I know the min height is usually about 115mm but whats the average length of a car jack?

in my bot I was going to use m12 rod. But your design is similar and you have experienced problems with a threaded rod, so I may go for a car jack myself, to save replacing the rods and getting bend ones etc etc.

defiantly go for the car jack, kaiser uses it and it never has problems(well, not with the lifter rod).
it has a much thicker and heavy duty thread that also will travel faster than metric threaded rod.

does it have a standard thread? Just thinking I may need a nut to fit the rod thread

                  Re: Laser 2

no it has a wierd thread. the car jack has a nut built in to it so you just take it out.

after your comments and issues with the threaded rod i'm going for the jack I think. Should work alot better.

Have to say you would do really well to ask if anyone has got half an electric seat from a jaguar/rover 800 (not quite as stupid as you may think cos people buy them for the Bosch 35w motors they come with.)

They come with a few linear actuators in them (to move the seat) with some mounting brackets which you can weld/bolt into place. Probably going to be a lot lighter than butchering a car jack.

You can then play about with it at quite minimal cost (Seat with motors is normally around £25)

already got some bosch's, but I'll have a look at the whole assembly.
