    Re: Cicatrix Build Diary

Wouldn't increasing the voltage reduce the current? Amps = Watts / Volts

Although all my school taught knowledge is gradually being dispelled!

I did think about that, but then I thought that the power output of the motor would just decrease as the voltage decreased?

          Re: Cicatrix Build Diary

          power = current x voltage

Double the voltage to a motor, it will try and draw twice as much current so you get a 4 fold increase in power (in a perfect world) but things can get very hot very quickly. I also wouldn't recommend bouncing off a current limiter all the time.

Is that what I said? Equation conversions are beyond at the moment (long day)......

So if the motor is rated at 150W at 24V then thats 12.4A (I think) and if i'm running it at 19.2 then I probably wont be overdoing it with the XL ESC. Does that sound right?

When we used them in Cylon they were running at 24v on a scorpion XL. That said, the batteries weren't capable of delivering too much more than the 12.5A anyway so may have been limited by that.

Personally I reckon if you run these on at least a 30A speedo then you'll get the most out of them.

The XL is the only thing I have spare at the moment, just because it came out of Cicatrix when I put the XXL in. As long as I don't break it I will be happy, will be good to get a wee test at Edinburgh and will see how it performs. Could even give it a test with the XXL afterwards just to see if there is any change.

Well that's the same number as I had on my very first robot, so yes, good amount
Patriotism aside, it's looking very nice now.

                        Cheers Jamie,

Its now working almost 100% so thats good, it also clears the ground when the armour is all on, so it can actually move

I also put those bolts on the armour at the side to stop it getting stuck and have put that curve on the back that it used to have to give it a bit more clearance when its upside down (I know its was on it already, but its a new back plate).

Still need to fix the link holder a bit as the cable ties are not really cutting it, it moves around a bit too much so might try something else in the next few days, then its off to Lanzarote until three days before Edinburgh .

Cheers Jonny . Its a deans connector i'm using for the link.

maybe you could use one of sam smiths deans connecter mounts?http://web.me.com/robochallenge/Robo...lectrical.html

I have made one of my own by attacking a chunk of spare Nylon with a drill. Gonna try cable tying or bolting it to the bulkhead that the cable ties are holding the link to at the moment and see if my effort will do it. I only have until this sunday to complete it too, I also have 2 heavies in pieces and a feather that is no where near completed, so quite a lot to finish off.
