    Re: Team Jamsandwich Build Diary

After i did some thinking and some studying on the FRA forum having a drum disc is not a good idea, after i found out that drum's are forbidden in most events so moving on. I can just go back to the ramming shield or have lifting spikes or lifting Wedge and I'm thinking about weapon's like pincers. At the moment it's just picking which one to go for and then thinking how to design them in a effective way.

After some thinking for the weapon I decided to make a lifting Wedge that will life up to 90 or 70 degrees. It will not be powered by a Linear Actuator but by a Geared Motor. The idea is this the wedge will be attach to a shaft with a gear on it and with a gear on the Geared Motor or have this gear that has this drill design i don't know what it's called but i have seen Hypno-Disc use them as drive so that's the idea just to thing's, one is to find a Geared Motor that's powerful enough to lift 13kg and two do you need a speed controller or is it some thing else to be operate as a weapon and not as drive.

i would still use a speed controller

that way you definitely have a reverse position, plus as the name suggests you can easily controller the speed and it can be very useful in a battle not to just have full extension all the time

              Re: Team Jamsandwich Build Diary

I did some searching for a geared motor and I have found one. A PDX26 with a 26:1 gearbox and the motor is a DuraTrax 550 run's at 923 rpm 12v it it should be powerful enough to lift 13kg easily. I have seen Jamie's Kaizer that has a drill motor as a Linear Actuator and that lift's featherweights quite well. The only thing is that the PDX26 is about 4 inches long so I need Place it sideways then i need 2x mitre gears, 1x shaft and 1x worm gear but this is not bad. The problem is what speed controller i use, the motor's nominal amps is 1.5 and the stall current is 148 amps so this made my head explode.

                Re: Team Jamsandwich Build Diary

It all depends on how you want it to lift.

If you want to be able to control the lift speed and have fine control then a speed controller is the way to go.

Otherwise an h bridge from sufficiently rated relays will allow it to run forwards and backwards but at full speed so less controled

At the moment I'm looking at 30A electronize watch i believe will do the job.

                    Update

Just got myself some steel bars 16X16 for my chassis.

                          Update time

At the moment my weapon motor has still not arrived, I believe it maybe back ordered or lost. I'll have a look later to see whats going on,
but this has give me time to think about a redesign of Rukia. Why? it's because the lifter is tacked on and part of the original design.

So I have been looking at robots with Lifting Weapons like Panic Attack, Biohazard, Vlad the Impaler and Big Nipper so i can get ideas.

                            Re: Team Jamsandwich Build Diary

Well after driving myself mad since the last update. I was going to stay with my original design of Rukia but with a better designed lifter. But after some thinking, in the back of my head is telling me that there's a serious fault with the drive I don't know what it is but I know there is a big fault.

So I'm just going to build my mini Biohazard, it's a lot easier to build.

This is a list of what I'm going to use.

                            Chassis - 4m 2014T aluminium

                            Power - 12v NiCad battery

                            Drive - 2x bosch35w motors

Weapon - lifting arm powered by a PDX26 - 26:1 Gearmotor, the is made of the same aluminium

speed controller - Scorpion XL and 30A electronize Speed Controller for the Weapon

                            here's a ruff idea

                                Re: Team Jamsandwich Build Diary

I might as well tell you what i plan to do, well my bosch35w motors only have a 4mm square hole, so I'm going to grind down a 12mm steel shaft at one end. Then have two bearings as supports, hopefully the shaft will not break. As from the bearings i don't know what I'm going to do with them, I can make them or buy ready mounted bearings, it depends on how much space the ready mounted bearings will take up.

I'm finding it hard to get 2014T aluminium, I just can't find it any ware. So I don't know if i should look for some different metal?
I can't use hardox as the chassis, because it may be to heavy at the end.

And I am thinking on how to make the arm, in other words should i put bearings on it or just drill holes and put a shaft through it?

And i have a question do you need a tool to make screw holes or do you just drill holes?

And I might as well show you what the original robot look like.
