  • Re: RogueTwo Robots

Regarding the armour of Grond, surely it should be burning wood and steel braces!?

Maybe I'm missing something, but what is the black box for in the photo of the 2-wheel diagonal drive robot?

Good drum kit by the way..........

The black box just houses the radio receiver, battery pack, mixer and failsafes. Helps keep those things tidy and contained in one section.

And yeah, it's a lovely drum kit to play

jamie dont worry about it, pinsors long gone and the lids on my wall im going for the vertical method now for the new pinsor wenever i get time lol we'll need a 1 on 1 i think

but its looking nice good luck with it

btw what voltage drills you use in carcinus? and how did it do at pull and pushing once it got robots in the claws?

wow they both are awesome but i especialy like the typhoon rover one
I built that chassis a couple years back. I still have the original typhoon rover chassis in my shed. Been meaning to build some new internals for it for a while.

Yeah I can't take credit for the initial build/design, I just bought the chassis a few years back as a basic robot for my dad (which turned out to be crap) and I've only just got round to rebuilding it, so figured I might as well restore it to its original looks.

The motors were 9.6V to start off with, and then 12V at some point (can't remember exactly) but the robot was running on 19.2V.
Never got a chance to pull or push a robot in the claws because the grip wasn't strong enough to hold them. Whenever it tried to pull a robot away, the opponent just slipped out of the claws. The actuator above has loads more power although no increase in speed, so will see how it performs. And a one-on-one would be good - you going to the champs?

ah right right, sorta the same with mine its still extremly slow but its got some force behind it now- i tried crushing my drum spinners chassis where 2 bits of 8mm hdpe join and it just went right through- claw even got stuck in the robot lol

and i'd go but i'm still minus 1 drum as kenny still needs to do it, if im not doing anything on that weekend i might come with the crusher and try get it running in some sort of rough state so we can try have a 1 on 1 at some point, think we need to agree no holding back either cos we might be able to do each other some cool damage

                Update

Also received a pair of 120mm blue wheels with nut inserts for Drumroll, but they're an odd shade of blue, more commonly known as black
However, considering the robot is black, they go rather well.

Off to Hornet Headquarters tomorrow night so should be some decent progress to report soon.

They're made from a material called Supralsim 690 apparently. They were going to be Hardox but it would've taken longer to get and cost a lot more so I'm trying this as an alternative. Not sure how it will compare to Hardox in the arena, so will be interesting to see them after a battle. They're really just a temporary measure as I'm contemplating switching to a beater when I remake Drumroll's chassis out of ali, but unlike my previous temporary measure of bolted bar teeth, these should be a lot more robust.

Also the teeth are going to be set 120° apart compared to the 180° offset on the old drum. Means there will be more hits per revolution but I like the idea of this being a shredding drum (ala GutRip from the 1996 American RW vid) as much as a big impact drum.

                          Update

Made some progress over the weekend, mainly with getting the new drum welded up and sorting out some hardox armour to improve protection:

Also got the Speed 900 fitted, just needs wired to the Victor and the right-size belt fitted (the one in the pictures is a little big):

Not too much left to do on this. Just a few little things here and there but which will add up to at least half a day's work. Then finally some spiffy paint and it should be ready to go.

Hopefully I'll have some Carcinus picture updates after the weekend, by which point it should at least be started. Think it's going to be one of my quickest builds ever!

how thick is the mounting bracket that you have on your speed 900? im thinking just a 2mm ali bracket on the face of the motor to hold motor in place on mine but im not sure.

                              • Re: RogueTwo Robots

That mounting bracket is 4mm aluminium, but it's softer stuff than the traditional 6082 ali that's used. Should hopefully be robust enough though.

Can't honestly say how well 2mm ali will hold up, it'll all depend on how much force is going through your robot during each impact. But I used to mount my 900s with those mounting plates that come attached and they only broke after several large impacts, so you might be alright with 2mm ali.
Not got any more pics at the moment, but there's not much else to see from it's current state. More pics after the weekend probably, should be ready to rumble by that point
