Can anyone provide a link to a smaller esc for a 2wd antweight available in the uk, I've heard the baby oragutan is good but it doesnt seem to connect to a receiver, is this correct?

In the UK you've only got 3 choices for a 2 channel esc: sabretooth, Baby O or a Pete waller board (for AWS attendee's only). You can attach a receiver to the Baby O but it's a solder job, no RC leads as such. I'll talk to Andy Hibbard or Jim Blunden, they have Baby O speedos, I'll try and get some instructions and a diagram/program.

Thanks Dave. Another thing is that we want more speed from our motors as they are a bit slow! We currently have these:

But was thinking about getting some of these ones:
        http://www.technobotsonline.com/polo...rmotor-hp.html
For more power, does anyone use these? Do you know if they weigh the same and have same size/ mounting? And can I go for a higher ratio eg 30:1 with 40mm wheels?

        Thanks for your help!

I use the 50:1 HP motors on all my ants; best mix of speed and power on the standard 32mm pololu wheel. 30:1 will be faster but lacking in torque. Here's an idea of the speed and drive you're looking at:

30:1 HP motors would be mad on 40mm wheels! Anything over 24mm and you should be using 50:1 in my opinion. Unless you like them really fast.

And the Baby orangutan is a great board, and very cheap. But you need to buy a separate programmer to get it working, and solder all the connecters on for the battery, receiver and 5v reg. But once you've done it once, it's very easy to do more. I use them in all but one of my antweights. It weighs 1.5g and costs £17, so I can't see me using anything else for the foreseeable future.

Here's a guide to programme the baby o. Have a read through, and if you're confident enough, I'd say give it a go.

Right so I've built most the antweight but it weighs 200g !!! And I'm a bit stumped as to how to lose the extra 50g by Saturday.

It's got 3mm hdpe sides (24g), 1mm carbon fibre top and bottom, homemade wheels (7g each), a sabertooth esc, a 2s 160mah lipo and a drum on the front (not attached yet).

Does anyone have Amy idea how to lose that much weight?

There's a lot of excess bolt I can see, you can lose 12g off the sabretooth if you remove the terminals and the heatsink (not needed at this weight level). There will be more to take out, but I'm busy ATM, I'll have a proper look later.

Shorten all the wires to the minimum you can get away with and trim some off the aluminium wherever you can, drill holes in it where it isn't essential. Also the corners on the plastic could be trimmed, it will all help.

I've managed to get it down to 159g by shortening the wires, removing the heat sink and the bits of aluminium angle. Hopefully can remove the remaining 9g by drilling lots of holes!

Have you taken the terminal blocks off the Sabretooth? The green blocks are 3g each!

Did you change the example Pololu code or just go with it?

I've taken off 2 of the terminal blocks but left the one for the power, I may remove that as well once I've found a lightweight power switch so can finalise the wiring.

I decided to ditch the polulu controllers as didn't fancy using a separate microcontroller to control them as well, so switched to a sabertooth.

I tend to use these from Maplin

About that. Havent got one handy to weigh

Have a look at making a power connector lead from the Sabertooth
