if you watch the program almost immediately they fell into the trap, they grabbed the body of Gabriel, we let them get a good grip then drove them straight into the house robot Dead Metal I think. the plan worked very well, as to grip Gabriel they had to lift the front off the arena floor over 300mm up in the air their wheels were probably off the ground we can push them anywhere we wanted. flippers can't flip crushers can't grip and spinners well we went 3 minuits with both none of the others did that even when they fought each other!! Gabriel
Gabriel would be unbeatable in an annihilator-style contest.

Was a little disappointed that Toby wasn't driving at any point; That kid's vicious behind the controls! :P

Pulsar was undoubtedly a good, innovative robot but to be allowed back in after the first round, followed by a series of judges decisions which went the opposite way to what we expected, sadly, stinks.

Previously when one robot has pushed another into the pit and fallen in themselves, it has been the one which went in the pit first that is out. It was obvious from the start that Pulsar was the one the producers wanted in the semi finals.

            Very poor show
I'm sorry if you think we didn't deserve the wins. Personally, and the irony that I might be biased is not lost, I think the various decisions would have been far more controversial had they been reversed.

More importantly, if the producers wanted to give us an easier road, they definitely wouldn't have awarded full points to Gabriel against Beast (nothing against you here Craig, the points were deserved, just making the association!) and they wouldn't have left us with an entire fight less than everyone else to score points. It feels like you might want the show to be rigged, because you seem to only be absorbing half of what actually was shown.

Believe me, I am fully aware of the drama here. Don't think for a moment that I haven't been apprehensive ever since the event - of all people who should be worried if Pulsar's run was rigged, it's me. And I'm very happy to say, I sincerely don't think it even remotely was. The effort I and my parents put in to keep Pulsar running was very real, and I think anyone at the event can vouch for that.

            ---

Regardless, I think this episode was excellent. It really shook up the format and everyone I have seen discussing the show agrees it was a real thriller. Fight against Gabriel is possibly my favourite fight (competed in) ever, I can't wait to do it all again!

??? I beat beast fair and square I presume you mean Gabriel vs beast . I still find the decisions strange but have accepted them

I carry no bad feelings for Craig or Ellis in fact both are great people and good machines

But please ensure the posts are accurate

Very sorry Adam, my mistake, total brainfart. Yes I did mean Gabriel, edited the post and re-reading it it sounded a bit like a jab at Craig, which is completely not the intention, so added a bit there too. Thanks for pointing that out!

I loved the 5th show although I think the editing did make it look a bit biased (for the record I don't for a second believe it was) but you see that in loads of other edits.

I absolutely loved Gabriel - the premise of its design is brilliant - avoiding the problem rather than slapping on loads of armour, same as a lot of martial arts! Its fighting style (and please don't take offence by this ) did slightly remind me of a daddy-long-legs fighting a beetle - a lot of crazy flaping around without appearing to do much.

I loved the episode, and I honestly don't see the controversy (I had no idea it could be even construed as controversial until I saw the thread...). If anything, the fair and consistent application of clearly defined rules made me worry if Mentorn had been replaced by some sort of anti-Mentorn!

I hope I didn't imply that I thought the show was unfair - I didn't mean to if it came across that way. What I meant was that the there was a heck of a lot of stuff going on that wasn't exactly clear-cut. Anything like that, especially a robot coming back from defeat, is something that I would see as a point where controversy could arise. Personally as I said, I think Pulsar won fair and square overall, and this is fairly clear now given the responses in this thread. But whenever it comes to a contest not being as clear as one robot defeated the other and is still running at the end, I can always see room for someone to disagree with the decision made.

I'd also like to take this point to advocate for the judges in this case. I feel like people (not necessarily here, but on the internet in general) disagree with their decisions regularly. And while I'm not saying people are wrong in each case, the judges chosen for Robot Wars aren't stupid by any means, and they know what they're talking about to some degree. So I'd like to have a little faith in the decisions they make unless given clear evidence to the contrary. By all means feel free to think what you like, but that's my stance on it.

There is always going to be people that don't accept the decision [general comment, not pointing a finger to folk here], happens regularly on a Saturday (apparently though I don't follow football). At the end of the day the Sun still rises in the East and I am grateful that RW was brought back and I had chance to participate.
Its telly at the end of the day and we are competing for bragging rights. I've had lots of fun on the fact that Nuts got mashed in a fight and people have talked to me about that
I think Mentorn will learn a lot from this, just hope series 2 gets commissioned

Again I and a lot of other people who are cleverer than me saw nothing to even be construed as a fix! Ellis won because the judges said so, these are professors in robotics and similar they are not going to be swayed by the production staff.

Just while I'm here. Good sportsmanship btw. (although I would certainly be willing to send someone's bot home in a bin bag during the finals to entertain - as I would expect of them)

I was just wondering have you considered what might help make your weapon more effective on the attack if RW is back on next year?

Hi I'm always looking at improving the weapons on all my robots and have some things in the pipeline.
with all axe bots either electric like mine or pneumatic like Thor, the amount of energy you can in practice put in is limited.

When Gabriel hits another robot you can see it lift off the arena floor as the force of the impact travels through to the wheels and causes the tyres to break away from the arena surface. the only way I can increase the load is to increase speed of the rotation or better grip tyres. I'm looking into both!

When Thor operates it's weapon when the hammer swings it lifts the robot off the floor with the centrifugal force! Beta has had to resort to lots of interesting stuff to stop this from happening.

Don't think the sword does no damage the pictures below show DM with damage from one blow from stand still from Gabriel. the sword actually cleaved a slot in it's head.

It is harder to notice that watching the fight on TV I suppose. People are using some really tough armor these days that can take a tough blow.
