It may be wise not to use words like fighting and war. It can be difficult to explain to viewers and sponsors.

Christian: Hmmm, tnkte inte p det. Man skulle dock kunna frkorta det SKRF.

Jonas: Helt rtt, fel av mig. Kamprobotfrbundet skall det naturligtvis vara.

Marien: The Swedish word kamp can mean fight in direct translation, but is a milder form that can also mean struggle and in sports even contest. It does not necessarily involve violence, and can be used like en kamp mot tiden (a fight against time) or en hjrnornas kamp (a struggle of the minds).
We also have similar constructions, like the swedish word for Martial Arts - kampsport.

        Good point however.

I understand the subtleties in a language and can€™t really read Swedish.
A lot of people have problems with references to violence. Robot Wars, the Dutch Battles was taken of television because the broadcasting company referred to war, smart missiles, and so on, at the exact moment the USA and their brothers-in-arms attacked Iraq; bad timing. Potential sponsors do not want to be associated with violence. So when the €œbad€ words are not in the name, you do not have to go trough the trouble of explaining, but can do business faster.

Think of this sport as education, entertainment and a way of developing several types of engineering. This way, shops, schools, TV, and governments will be open for co-operation.

          Good luck.

Take your time to discuss it at a live event but not during a live event (too much things to do and such). Try to get as much people involved as you can.
Marien and Andy (but also Erich from the GRA) can give you details if you need them.

I think it is easier for new people to come to a club than just a group of enthousiasts, especially if the new people are under-age youngsters who rely on their parents for being allowed and for assistance (such as driving them to a place). A club can also allow for better representation, finding sponsors, rules enforcement and parts trading.
Svenska Kamprobot Frbundet has a nice ring to it, especially if your word kamp means contest without negative connotations. Do you have other words for contest ?

Not entirely without Im afraid. The clean word for contest is tvling, which brings us to the alternative Svenska Tvlingsrobot Frbundet. That is so clean it could very well include robotic football and similar classes.

Nothing wrong with that. It gives you room to expand.

Even though Svenska Kamprobotfrbundet has a certain sound to it, wouldnt it be better to use something English? Or at least something thats very similar to English?

Why ? I have something big against Englisization... (is that word correct or did I just invent a new one ?)
You have the chance to have a more or less exotic name that sounds good and would even be understood by people like the Papoua New Guineans but wouldnt be the next in a long line of robot associations.
What is your plural of robot ? Roboter, robota ? What is your word for robot builder or roboteer ? Are there other words to describe a group of people like frbundet ?
                      Just trying to help.

That was close....robotar is is the plural of robot.

                        robot builder = robotbyggare

Frening might be used, but it is not a translation of association.

The word robotr is singularis, it should be robotrer for pluralis.

So it would be Svenska Robotrer, or possibly Svenska Robotr Freningen. But that would just be a translation of the German Roboteers Assossiation.
