After some bits of Hardox 500/600 to use as our impactors.

220x15x40 (Length, Width, Height)

Does anyone have some offcuts, or a good source for these?

http://k-cut.co.uk/ have 35mm Hardox 500 to hand, and I think 40mm in 450. They may well have other bits including 15mm. John (owner) is away most of January but will be in and presumably able to take calls on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

If you mention it's for Robot Wars he/they will be on board. Whilst yes they are my sponsor, loads of builders use them - I'm sure they can sort what you need.

I've called up more than a few of them - because the amount that we're after is relatively tiny, it's almost easier to buy a full sheet, which I then have nowhere to store.

Random question regarding Hardox. Will someone who knows what there doing be able to bend 10/15mm thickness into a scoop?!

In theory yes, but that's one heck of a job requiring a massive machine, and even then it may just crack rather than bend. Heating the area might help but at that point you'd be probably better off just cutting and welding.

Also @ Robert: yeah... my sleeping pattern is a bit broken!

@Ellis - I imagine it's less broken now than it was in March last year when you were up in Glasgow at the recordings. Surely at events it's basically a case of how few hours sleep can you survive on, right?

Bending hardox that thick should be doable, I think several of the usual Hardox cutting companies have access to presses big enough. Be sure to follow the design guidelines for bending hardox though: https://ssabwebsitecdn.azureedge.net...ngth-steel.pdf and also leave enough room between and around bends for the die. The quotes we had for bending were very reasonable, as were laser cutting small pieces. By the time you get to pricing a whole robot's worth of cutting it really adds up though.

+1 For Kcut. As a relative novice I found them very approachable and easy to deal with. We visited whilst a whole pallet of Pulsar components were being stacked up ready for delivery ;-)
