  • 24v NiMH Battery Packs

After some 24v NiMH Battery Packs for a heavyweight drive setup.

If you're moving into Heavies, I'd advise going for LiFePO4 batteries. They're pretty much as safe as NiMH, but lighter and easily available. Quite a few heavies use them these days. You need about 8Ah for drive. You'd want two of these in series: http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking...arehouse_.html

Otherwise, SLA batteries are good if you think your robot's going to end up quite light, and they're nice and cheap. You need quite a large amount of capacity compared to other battery types, as they only produce good current when fully charged (Nuts used 14Ah at 24V). Two of these would do nicely: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CSB-EVX121...gAAOxy2YtRr168

Okay, ended up pulling out of the Ni-Cads and Terry has sold all his 24v NiMHs. Anyone out there (or know of anybody) who has any of them for sale?

Although at those prices you might as well go down the lithium route if not for the weight

Let's face it both those battery technologies are history! The highest discharge for any of those packs is an anaemic 35 amps and the best C rating only comes to 8C. Even the cheapest Lipo pack does better for less weight and probably less cost.

The boy asked for nimh and I gave nimh I wouldn't dream of running any of those packs myself but each to their own.

Just use SLA's... you'll most likely need the added weight anyway; It's surprisingly hard to hit 100kg unless you have some huge weapon or heavy armour. Especially considering the motors you're using, a pair of 17Ah packs would be ideal.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CSB-EVX-12...wAAMXQDfdRtHxy
