  • Gimson 18V motor only

Since Gimson no longer sell the 18V motor I need to repair my robot for Maidstone I was wondering if anyone had a spare or knew where to get hold of one to match them.

I just need the motor not the gearbox!

Gareth has 2 of'm, but they are here. I'll have them with me at Maidstone.

Also, ever tought about going brushless? We have 2 machines using the way smaller 28mm diameter HK brushless mounted on the GR02 24/1 gearboxes. Replacing the original motors with 540 can size brushless ain't rocket science.

I actually plan on moving to a better drive system over christmas. I'm just looking to get my robot through Maidstone.

I'm debating between 775 with Banebots gearboxes (An expensive but much more rugged setup) or brushless drive (Though I'm still not sure about sensored or unsensored, hopefully I'll be able to have a look at how the brushless drives Shakesc's got run to help the decision). I'm still quite unimpressed with the GR02 gearboxes though.

You can order the motors on their own, I know because I just have....

Whether you go unsensored or not depends entirely on reduction. If you're going for a single-stage like with those Alienpower outrunners, sensored is a must have (and even then it hasn't proven itself yet) but if you go for a fast inrunner with a bigger reduction, such as 36:1 from drill gearboxes, you'll be able to get away without sensored motors. It's nice to have, but from what I can gather not essential with that much of a reduction.
