  • Gear machining for Stevenage

As I mentioned in my build diary I need to machine a gear (Thin and pocket it) for my robot as the old ali gear is knackered. However the new gear defeated the lathe I had access to so i'm looking for someone to machine it and return it before or at Stevenage (Second Day).

The gear that needs replacing is on the right and the new gear on the left:

It just needs thinning and pocketing with the small gear re-added to it.

Send me a message if you can help me out

Doing the pocketing neatly on a lathe might be difficult; it needs a special trepanning cutter like this: http://www.cnccookbook.com/CCToolGrinding.htm It would be very easy to do on a mill with a rotary table.

A new gear would be best but try filing the teeth on the gear so they run smoothly again and rotate the gear a little when you put it back so the same area doesn't keep taking the load. Wont fix the problem but may get you through Stevenage.

One of the recent Oxtoolco videos showed the use of a trepanning tool. Might be worth a look at too if you go that route.

Note I no longer have access to the lathe so new tools are not an option.

And I would file the teeth... but there are none left to file :P It's sheared off the teeth!

I want to get this fixed as I have Stevenage and then Glow the week after.
