  • Wanted: 4 x drill motors

    Hey guys.

Some of you may be aware I am rebuilding Kaizer for Ceri and unfortunately all of his drill motors have had it, certainly the gearboxes (I blame Battleaxe), So I'm looking for 4 identical drill motors for cheaper than to buy 4 Argos ones.

    Can anyone help?

      Gimson's are very cost affective

I have built the robot to fit drill motors and Ceri can't really afford any new bits, so I'm scrounging.

i'll only look at gimsons once they've been battle tested. Before that, they might aswell be hobby motors

i'm running a pair of gimpsons on 170mm exposed wheels on sunday, should be a good test of the motors abilities

Unless spinners are in the arena it's not a good test

Sent PJ a message Dave, he had a load of them last time I spoke to him.

Any battle-based test is a good test I'd say. I've had more broken drill motors/gearboxes from being flipped and rammed all over the place in robot meles at non-spinner events than I've had from spinner fights.

I have a few of the 9.6v? argos ones. Some are shot for a variety of reasons but as we wont be using them again you could get a few together with a bit of effort. I have at least one good one.

I'll see what else I can get, because I have the robot on 24v batteries, just running on dual rates, so 12v would be preferable

how does that make sense? a battle test with normal robots is a good test, if a spinner hits any motor its gonna damage it

Lots of people have recently swapped out to Gimson motors, maybe they'll be willing to part with their past drill motors.

I'm only ever in competition with spinners. If it survives inside a bot with a spinner then I'd be happy to run them. I didn't mean a direct hit from a spinner. I'm dubious about the mountings for the moment but am always willing to be surprised.

Is it the inserts you're concerned about? If so I'd be happy to send you a sample front piece with them in- stick a bolt in one of the holes and try to pull it out, maybe give it a bit of a hammer (PM me an address to send to if you like?). I believe you'll find the point of failure to be far beyond what you'd expect from the majority of mounts/motor assemblies, even if the material combination is a little unorthodox.
