You can get cheap ones of ebay but there only one channel and they dont look like they could be used in robots.
However with a little fuss you could probarbly make one with a dimmer switch and a servo.
I might be able to get a 9v from a toy car you name the price.
        thanks

One channel controllers are fine for combat robots. The electronize controllers I use all the time are single channel. You just need to have at least one per side of the machine. Stay away from ebay controllers unless you know what you are looking for as the ratings given are meaningless.

A dimmer switch wouldn't work as a speed controller and would quickly burn out.

I might have a couple spare electronize kicking around. I'm planning on having a proper clear out of the parts I no longer use in a couple weeks so keep watching the for sale section.

They might be the R/C car ones that use the manufacturer's FET rating, running them at a tenth of their stated capacity is therefore a good idea ;P

ahhh yes hobby amps. Basically most RC products give complete and utter BS numbers when it comes to ratings for parts so that kids can stand beside each other and have a who has the biggest ........ competition. Real world amps are what the product will actually do. i will guarantee that if you hooked up a motor that drew 160 amps to it, it wouldn't last for any length of time.

I was hoping that it would survive a pair of drills in a featherweight like the lower rated blue rc smart speedos that I have seen being used.

Do you by any chance still have a link to those speedos Harry?

Even if they turn out to be useless in a robot I have an unfinished rc boat somewhere that needs some electronics.
