  • small reliable drive system.

Wanted : Small, reliable drive system.

My robot's too big, and i don't like it (yes I know, it's not even finished).

Would a 1-step reduction with a set of bosches + 125mm blickle wheels be viable ?

It works in other robots so I don't see why not. It's not going to push much but that was never the purpose.

hmmm, well, pushing is also the plan...
      I'll do some calculations

a 1:9 single stage reduction... is that viable ?

Splinter was about 1:10 single stage. That was already a big gear and a large 260mm wheel. Not much in the pushing department though.

thats why I said 125mm blickle, with a 1:9 reduction that would give me about the same pushing power as my current 1:20 reduction on a go-kart wheel...

            Re: small reliable drive system.

TX-108 used to run a 9:1 ratio on 200mm wheels so 125mm would be more than ok I would think

Apocalypse is 5:1 with 160mmm wheels (I know not good but seems to work)

Toxic 2 is 10-1 with bosch 750 motors and 260mm wheels it does push but its not the best,
on 24v nimh packs i got 13mph, but im on 30v nimh about 10-12ah (3 in paralell) and it
                goes about 16mph quite nippy.

                  Re: small reliable drive system.

guys, please read the first post, 260mm is by no means small when I look for something with 125mm wheel height

Gravity ran on 10 go kart wheels (so 260mm also), a 20:1 reduction on a 36V bosch motor.
I want to keep the 36V and the bosch 750, cause that combo is just awesome and doesn't need a big heavy speedo. The gearing has to be quite big too, otherwise there's too much of a strain again on the speedo...
I could happily run G3 with 2 robots on top

                    Re: small reliable drive system.

Let's guess at a 6-1 gear ratio for the 5 wheels...and compare it to the 10 wheel and 20-1 ratio.
Your top speed will rise from 9 mph to 15 mph and your amps draw will probably rise by 66%.

                    Regards Woody

=> room for about ¸100 (dp) spur gear. Divide by 9 => You need a pinion gear of about ¸11 (dp). Can you get that on the Bosches ¸12 shaft?
For ¸110 spur, you need ¸12 pinion.
Not impossible, but still a hasle.
