  • How to power the safety LED?

    Hi all,

Building our first featherweight and trying to get all the electrics sorted.

How best to power the safety light/led? I'm assuming I'm going to have to step the voltage down from the drive battery which is a 4S currently. This I know is too high for a little LED but I don't know enough about electronics to know which bit of ebay to be ordering to step it down. Any pointers?

    Cheers

    Hi Pete

I use 4s Lipo batteries in all my Feathers and found a 340 Ohm resistor just before the LED on

the positive side works fine-use a red LED-they are usually rated highest and connect the negative

to a negative outlet like battery or ESC.

You will need a resistor, but as 4s is 14.8v you can use a 680 ohm resistor. You can also just use some prewired leds for 12v, they will be fine at £15v - i used them before. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3mm-5mm-D...r=502685164120 - just some i found on ebay. there are plenty of sellers. Also you can use 12v led strips - i have used these on 5s.
