  • Filling up a buffer and shuting it off then filling the co2

    hi,

i am currently using 2x 2kg co2 bottles in my heavy and have mario hopefully making one into a buffer now since there both 2kg when i open the one with all the gas in, all the gas is going to go into the buffer and none is going to be left in the other one now i was thinking if i could let all the gas from one into other then shut it off through some sort of valve then i could fill the other one back up so i would have 4kg of co2 in as 2kg would be in the buffer? would this be aloud?

if it would what would be the safeist valve to be used?? has i dont want someone coming up to robot and touching the valve and it lets all gas out in the pits.

Thats not strictly true, when you open the gas tank it will equalise pressure in the buffer by boiling off liquid from the tank. You will still have a tank full of liquid/gas and one full of gas... unless the buffer is really cold then youll get liquid in both.

Either way youd have CO2 in both buffer and tank - not a full buffer and an empty tank.

Also as I remember opening the gas tank should only be done while arming the robot, which is done in the arena. If you are charging the buffer you are pretty much arming the robot. If the robot accidentally fired (maybe due to a leaky valve) in the pits there would be people shouting at you from all over the place.

Its not possible inside the rules to charge the buffer and then replace the used bottle. Would take to much time in the bullpen.

Oh well, lets calculate. A 3 liter volume buffer takes 180 L. 1 Kg liquid CO2 is 512L

So filling the buffer will boil off 350 grams of liquid CO2.

A lot of hassle to gain 350 grams if you ask me.
