15/16th April 2006 RR Robot Rumble at Colchester

Firstly, congratulations to winners Kan Opener and Little Hitter.
Good event and loads of new  faces - it was like the proverbial whos who of Robot Wars - some of the kids were absolutely wide eyed at the line-up of famous faces and machines.

      Guys,

I agree it was really nice to see the event with the old robots, the old faces, and i think most will agree..... it had the old Robot Rumble atmosphere.

I would like to thank all of you for your support for this event, im glad that my involvement and commitment helped sway some of your decisions as to whether to attend or not.
Again it was great to see our friends from across the water, i bet they got home before we did last night.

I think we all owe Geoff Thrope a BIG thank you for bringing this event back to life. This time last year robot world suffered a blow, however 2006 has more than made up for it.

Weve already talked about 2007, so put it in your diaries for much of the same.

Well done to the winners, Kan Opener in a fantastic final which was 50 / 50 up until the end, and Little Hitter.

There is lots of things on going behind the scenes within RR at the moment, currently having to play a waiting game with decisions being made, what with the pending Uk champs, and other things in the pipeline, its a bit tricky, but rest assured I will be sending an update very soon, on whats in store for the rest of the summer, and also the rest of 2006.

      See you soon

I must say that this time was much better than any previous time Ive been...maybe because it actually felt like an episode of Robot Wars, what with the pit, flipper, ability to flip another robot out...and the funky background music.

Plus seeing what happened to the washing machine once Beast, Scorpion and Tornado had finished with it.

The best event of the year so far, big thanks to the Robot Rumble crew and Roaming Robots and hope all the rest of the events this year will be as good, Just a bit difficult for feathers with the poor quality of the arena floor.

Anyone got any vids of the final & Semi finals?

Well done to Kan-opener, I blame my brother for driving in the pit, He blames me for addiing a long deceleration ramp to the robot But we were simply out driven by Kan-opener.

A BIG well done to Geoff Thorpe & the RR crew.
One of the best events for a while...It was great to see so many of the old faces again.
We WILL get the hang of Dantomkia... eventualy!
Evilution was not fully on form either, although
Batter Bot managed a 3rd in the feathers!

Sorry about the arena side-wall John!
(Nothing that a welding torch and a BIG hammer cant fix! :wink

One request..Does anyone have any reasonably good res. video of a washing machine meeting an untimely end at the hands of Scorpion / Tornado / Beast?

                      Looking forward to next year!

                      Geoff, John & Sarah.

The arena took a real beating thanks to Scorpian and Turbulence. Hope are hammer isnt a write off, it did get its revenge in advance though, DB5 is sufficiently bent after several hammer blows. Needed an overhaul anyway, have a new weapon for it just need to build it.

A very good event as they go, none of our robots were on form but Im sure they will be at some point. We have a vid of the Ripper, Big Nipper and Turbulence fight from saturday will get it online later.

Well at least i know that once i bolt on the extra 5mm steel, that the nasty scorpion wont hurt the arena.

Structuraly the arena is sound... all we need to do is contain you WHEN you get flipped out of the arena with disc at full chat !!!

I will be going through the tapes later so best bits, and some of the best fights will be on the website very soon.

                            Regards

                            John

15/16th April 2006 RR Robot Rumble at Colchester

A very enjoyable and suprisingly sucessful show for us- I was really happy to finally compete at the Easter Rumble. A great show from the RR team who somehow managed to keep the feel of this gig despite the total change of venue. Finishing third with Ka-Pow! completely exceeded expectations even if we did seem to sneak through the competition a bit. Really enjoyable fights against Bigger Brother, Weird Alice (OOTA, but not working right- rematch?) and Kan Opener and some great melees too. We finished with a gas leak and a slightly thinner robot thanks to Kan Opener, but we could hardly be happier if wed won. Thanks to Jonno for the polycarb and bolts and to Team TMT and Team Turbine for help and additional drills getting the extra panel on in time for the Kan Opener fight. Great to see a lot of the old guard like Mike, Andy, George, Rex, John, Jacky and Alan, as well as some great folks I hadnt met before like the Spike Team. My wife Tracey finally had a crack at working the flipper and turned out to be a natural. Particular thanks for all the support and encouragement going into the semi-final. I think we gave it a good shot, but Kan Openers a great robot with a great driver and we just couldnt get away from them for long enough!
Just in case anyone didnt already know, Ka-Pow! was largely designed by Woody and uses an ultra high flow medium pressure pneumatic system driving a custom high pressure ram. Its unconventional and extremely powerful. Woody wasnt able to stay after the first session on Saturday and missed all our best fights. If any of our better fights could be posted Id be grateful.
                                All the best,
                                John and Tracey.
