  • BotFest 3 (14th September 2019)

    Hey Everyone!

It is time for our third BotFest event! This time, we are trying out a new venue, this being:

    The Belvidere Centre
    Belvidere Rd,
    Wallasey
    CH45 4RY

    Date: 14th September 2019
    Time: 10:00 - 17:00 (ish)

Like last time, we'll be running a set of 4 heats, quarter finals, semi finals and a grand final. We'll also be having a all robot rumble at the end and if folks want to organise a whiteboard or side-event in the intermission, please feel free to do so. The arena will be getting a new floor to replace the old floor that was in there so no more getting caught on the join.

As always, this is an Antweight event (I know there was mention of this being a Beetleweight event but I've not had the time to get an arena built) but if you wish to do a static display your heavier class robots, please feel free to bring them with cradles and sharps protection where needed. As before, we are running a slightly modified variant of the AWS ruleset (http://robotwars101.org/ants/rules.htm), those being:

2.a: Weight limits have a 5% variance, so the maximum permitted weight for a Antweight roller is 157.5g and for a Antweight walker is 236.25g. Robots that exceed the AWS weight limit but are within the variance will have a note applied to the technical check sheet but pass in this instance.

2.b: Size limits have a 5% variance, so the maximum size for a particular dimension for a Antweight is 106.68mm. Robots that exceed the AWS size limit but are within variance will have a note applied to the technical check sheet but pass in this instance.

4.a: Heat matches will last 2 minutes. All other matches (except the All Robot Rumble and Side events) will last 3 minutes. The All Robot Rumble will last until one robot remains mobile. Side event runtime are determined on the day.

5.g A team is permitted to enter up to 3 robots of either a roller or walker.

    Event signup is here: http://antlog.garya.org.uk/event/22

    Hope to see you there!

Great to see, was worried this might clash with the AWS. Looking forward to it.

Indeed, is AWS 59 definitely running on the 21st of September? I didn't want to clash with it.

The plan is the 21st but since they're still finalizing the details I suppose it's not 100% certain yet. It's also being held in Sheffield so it would be particularly harsh for the notherners if they had to choose between two of the few events they get up there.

Ah, OK. Hmm... If AWS does land on the 14th (I get the feeling it won't from what I have heard), I am sure I can make alternative arrangements. For the moment, treat it as if it is still the 14th for the time being and we'll see where it lands.

Hi Adam, I'll most likely have a clusterbot ready for Botfest & I'll need a second driver so if want you're welcome to drive it, especially if you don't have a bot yet.

Also there's an event called Robonerd in Wolverhampton on 31st August you may be interested in. There's lots of tournaments for smaller weight classes, heavyweights on display & a lot more stuff going on. If you're looking to learn that could be a good place to start.

Yeah that would be wicked I have brought a Nuts and Bolts Ant Weight axe bot so might see how i get on with that but a cluster bot sounds fun!

I always knew some events went on but never knew this many, will look at that Robonerd as nice and close for me

Awesome! Those Shakey kit bots are surprisingly competitive. I have one of those axe bots myself & have made it to the 7th round in 3 of the last 4 Antweight World Series events with it. I've signed it up for Botfest so maybe we can have an axe off. I believe Robonerd will have an open arena for antweights so if you go you can bring it along for practice.

P.S. Lucy sorry for spamming all over your thread.

Hahhaa, no worries, good to see folks chatting away. :P

To give an idea of what the event looks like, here is the video from BotFest 2.
