    Nice one!

Is it a simple first come first served sign up this time or an application/selection process?

Do we need to buy tickets for insomnia on all those days? I've not done this before.

        Hi Matt

It will be an application basis however we will aim to let everyone know asap and try to get as many people there as possible.

There is an entry fee however this covers you for entry into Insomnia for all the days.

Great to hear, James. Insomnia was ace last year. Don't know yet if I can make it (depends on work/life things) but will do my best!

I don't know how you seem to manage to make it over to the UK every year, Nick. It's crazy.

I'm definitely applying though, maybe I'll even have a new machine finished in time.

Its going to be harder this year; the Aussie Championships are one week before Robochallenge. That's a 2,000 Km road trip followed by a 17,000 Km flight with only 2 days between. Stress & jet-lag will be off the charts.

For newbies, can anyone expand on what the Championship is? Weight classes etc? We (ARC Robotics) may have a heavy and a couple of feathers to enter....

James & Grant might be planning something new but in the past the event has been featherweight only.

It's 3-4 days of awesome fun
On a more detailed level, it usually consists of a test day the day before the competition starts, where you can turn up and test your bot in the arena, iron out any bugs, pass tech checks etc. The competition then runs for the remaining days. It tends to start off with a league format, three or four rounds of three-way meleés with 4 points for a KO, 3 for a judges' decision win, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for a loss/3rd and 0 points for failing to enter the arena. The top 18 robots then go through to a straight knockout competition, with losers' meleés along the way to offer a redemption path. They also usually hold an Annihilator competition and Gladiator fight (no time limit, no robot limit, last robot standing wins).

Having said all that, they could well have a different format lined up for this one, but generally the above is how it's been run for the past 8-ish years.
