  • Has anyone found out what the new mystery bot 'Hornet' is? I keep searching and coming up with nothing.

    • Isn't it now killer bee or something?

Also, anyone know if we get entry for the Wednesday as well if we turn up early (because you booked the wrong bus) and can we still add teammates to our team sheets?

Edit:also, whether LiPos can be velcroed in and padded, if surrounded in at least 2.5mm thick steel and hardox? I'm very behind...

Binky's lipos are held down inside the robot with industrial velcro, its very hard to remove them, so I am sure it will be fine. We passed the tech-check with it last year.

        • Nick:

          Killer Bee for you:

It changed from Hornet because the name was taken by an existing machine/machine being re-built.

              • What is that strange looking grey thing front right of the robot? Is it a buffer tank?

                • Apparently yes

Any clue what it's made of? Looks like a bit like a hydraulic accumulator tank but I doubt it can be.

                    • The grey metal mass is an heat exchanger, to keep the setup from freezing. It acts a bit like a buffertank too. Idealy it's aluminium.

                      • Is that a custom part or is it commercially available? I can't think where you would get a heat exchange with a high enough pressure rating?

                        • Ideally its cast and will explode ...knowing john though he'll just wright beauty on another robot and carry on the competition though

                          • There are commercial available hydraulic heat exchangers, there are heat exchangers for petrochemical processes, and that's only the start of the list.
All perfectly rated for the pressures we work with, but non are suitable for our machines.

No, for something like this, it's custom work.

                              • Beauty 8 is going to be fun to drive! My first go will be in the first fight so I'll have to get up to speed pretty soon.
