When we get the armour fixed on Binky we will have a shot at breaking Tiny Toon! [Though not until next year i'm afraid]

One surprise though. It wasn't 720 that snapped the welds, it was landing after LF3 tossed us through the air for the second time! Who would have thought!

I had a discussion with Learo about this, because to me, what he entered under Beauty 7 was almost a different robot.
To me, there are 5 key parts to a robot: Chassis, drive, electronics, batteries, weapon system. 3 out of those 5 were swapped out before round 2 started (drive went from Gimson to 900's, electronics went from scorpion to Vantec, chassis replaced). To my mind, that is not the same robot that was in before.

    Anyway..
Thanks to the Coopers for putting on a great event as usual, and big congratulations to Micheal and Calum for their wins and to Jonno/Learo and Mouldy for their respectful finishes.

720 was the robot of the champs for me, you definitely addressed the engagement issues you had before! Best exit I've ever had, thanks Mouldy and Alex (Binky)!

Thanks to James, Grant and all at Robo Challenge for a superb 3 days. Really enjoyed the Champs again this year. Congratulations to Michael and Adrian on making it third time lucky, you really deserve the title, Learo and Jonno on second and Mouldy for third place with the non smoking 720.

Team Toon managed to come home with 3 trashed bots, all of which at one time or another had smoking issues in one form or another. Tiny Toon proudly took on the spinner boys until Galactus shorted out the battery pack. But be warned, just like 4 4 Toon after 720 and Boner had nibbled it, put the link in tonight and she powered up and drove. Tiny Toon is alive and will be at Colchester next Sunday. So sorry Inertia,Boner,720,Galactus,LS4,Drumroll 2,Boner again,LS4 again,NST and Galactus again, your not good enough yet and she will be there again next year.

    Team Toon

There is no restriction on what components can be replaced during a competition. Perhaps this needs to be looked at? However, none of the parts used had been used in any other machines during the competition and the machine was still in weight after the changes. The machine looked similar in shape and design after the modifications.
The only restriction on changing drivers would be that the replacement had not driven another machine during the competition.

"We aren't allowed to swap drivers mid way through a championship, so why should we be allowed to swap robots under the same name? "

Because there's a rule saying you can't swap drivers, there is no rule governing how much of your robot your allowed to swap between fights. The EOs and Kane had no issue with it, else we wouldn't have done it.

    That was well good fun!

Well done to the Explosion lads for there first place!... and beauty, good driving from jonno... and some crafty rule bending by learo as normal to get second (haha) - only robot to beat 720 so far- ill have to come up with something to get you next year!

Had a great week at gadgetshow, good banter with John lear and guntherm in the pits, and some real impressive battles this year.... that fight with 720 against tiny toon was one of the best battles ive ever had from a drivers point of view.... although im kinda glad us spinner lads are finnaly getting the reliability there to take out the hardox box's!

Was pretty pleased with 720, i only took it all apart a few times because i was being picky about things... i could of just charged the lipo, and had it working in 5 mins between each fight and it would of worked just as well... pretty maintenance free. worked better then expected... although Sam helped point out one area that could be improved upon during the 720/NST fight- ive already started designing the new hybrid brushless motor that will be going in for next year.... its also the first time ive used a brushless setup without a single bit of smoke until the end- which only happened due to shorting within the robot which eventually took out the 100a fuse.

360 was a bit of a flop, first time ive tested it on 6s, seems the scorpion didnt like it and kept cutting out- so ill get that replaced for some botbitz esc's for next year.

Good to see some new faces with new robots with weapons too- very impressed with "no toy" and "scruffy".

Thanks to the Coopers for organising it all.. hopefully next year will be just as good!

Think someone with good video skills should do a montage now... cant beat a good montage lol

What an awesome event!! Many thanks to all the Robo-challenge team who put this event on for us. Once again I felt the champs atmosphere was the best of any event I've ever been to.

I thought the standard of robots and battles was incredible and it was good to see so many new teams developing new machines.

Mark, the battle between LH3 and NST was epic, really like the new sleek design of LH3 btw. I suspect one of these days NST or shard is going to get a real kicking from one of your machines!

Congrats to everyone who made the podium. Long awaited win for Explosion.
Was well impressed with 720 winning that 9 way melee.

Was very pleased with how NST ran, it delivered the reliability i've come to expect from it and all the reliability upgrades worked well for it this year so its still in fighting form. It seems my driving was the weak link at times.

A big thanks to Grant for controlling the weapon so well in NST and taking the control to a another level this year (directing the robot in flight where possible to keep in the arena). Thanks also to those who helped me out in the pits, Calum, Alan and Dave of particular note.

Didn't manage to get any videos this year but am very much looking forward to seeing videos of the battles which certain dependable teams provide for us

"or should that be Beauty 6"

This I was not happy with. I don't care if "it's just John Lear being John Lear" or whatever other BS excuse that was thought up as a spur of the moment reason. Fundamentally changing the chassis for a completely different chassis that isn't made of the same material or looks the same goes against one of the basic gentlemens agreements of robotic combat.

We aren't allowed to swap drivers mid way through a championship, so why should we be allowed to swap robots under the same name?

Every year the event just gets better. Big thanks to Robochallange for all their hard work and letting us use the workshop to keep LS4 running.

Litter hitter 3 v NST was the best fight we've had for 12 months, wait that last one was NST v LH2 as well . Next year Sam!

Congrats to Michael for the win, well deserved.

I think Little Flipper is a little worse for wear, maybe another electric attempt next year. Graeme was to patch it up til then.

Got back to Aberdeen a few hours ago (just over 1000 miles on the trip computer!). I'm absolutely nackered even after a good sleep last night.

Mixed event for me really, boner did well initially before snapping the brushless shaft in it's third fight. With a renewed shaft I'm confident the motor shouldn't have issues from now on and it was doing well in the annihilator until I ended up in the pit (DOH!). Not happy with the drive on boner. Burned out one 24v gimson and the other two now sound very crunchy. Either the gearboxes are no good or the motors aren't. Will need further investigation.

Congrats to all the winners and thanks to all that lent me tools, parts, time and somewhere to sleep.

congrats to explosion on the win and comiserations to beauty and 720, line up just kept looking stronger and stronger as the weekend went on, honestly had 720 or nst down to take the win thou!

spent most of my spare time constantly repairing my drill drives, so they are next to go i recon and will have a good look at my self righter too and get the weapons on a seperate tx, as my nerves couldn't take all the multi tasking!
