  • Dutch Robotgames @ Antwerp Belgium - 28th April

On the 28th of April Dutch Robot Games will host an event in Antwerp Belgium.

The Antwerp Sci-fi, Fantasy and Horror convention is a gathering of fans and creators of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, including literature, movies, games, and other media.

After the success of 2012 we are invited a second time for full contact combat between Feather, Raptors and ant robots.

Heavyweight robots are welcome for demo purposes.

It is a 1 day event, not far from Calais
We will set up our 2F arena capable of holding all Feathers.

very tempted to come to this, although its the same weekend as burgess hill.

Can you tell us what heavy demos would consist of? A lot more appealing to bring a heavyweight !!

Likewise would love to support you guys, but sadly we're committed to the Robots Live event in Burgess Hill

Was frustrated not to get over to your last event with Storm Vortex which was all ready for an outing !

If we decide Burgess Hill is too separate (date-wise) from the other events we go to on our next trip, we could take this one in on our way back down to Spain.

April is going to be a seriously busy month for this community!

Re: 28th April Dutch Robotgames @ Antwerp Belgium

Unfortunately, DRG itself does not determine the date of this event, we mostly participate in existing events.

Heavyweight demos are a robot in the arena which shows its power, possibly do some flips on its own, and scremec.

TAN for example demolished a computer and a pallet in Vilvoorde.
            Tsunami make some test flips.

The Arena is not big enough for 2 heavyweight to have a combat safely. Some time's we do a non weapon demo combat.

But heavyweight demos are a good start of a new round, they make a lot of noise, people hear it and come over the the arena. For some of us its a good time to safely test a weapon. *(flipper, axe, crushers )

Antwerp Sci-Fi/Fantasy & Horror Convention Event report.

Saturday it was arena building day. Unfortunatly I had to forfait that. Work interfered. But, it was an event only half an hour drive away, so we had guests in the House of Chaos.
Hospitable as we are. 5 kg of Bacon Explosion went into the oven (need to build a smoker one of these days). Beer in sufficient quantities was put in the fridge.

We also helped one of our adversaries,"Elvis's" PulveR , who's GP 3700NiMH's were "gone" to replace them with Zippy 2200 cells. It did hurt us.
Another ittiebittie of work was applied to a steel army helmet that was converted to a 6 kg Raptor class called Torture.

                        Sunday, after too little sleep.

                        Setting up our Fearsome Foursome.
                        Old Faithfull Hannibalito 3.
                        Maturing Hannibalito 4
Rebuild 3 of Nebelwerfer 1 (the only thing left is the spinning bar itself)
                        Sparkling new Valkiri.

Hannibalito 3. Battery charged, bottle filled. Trow in the arena, fight, come out of the arena, rince and repeat.

Hannibalito 4. The previous events waren't that impressive, even if it looks good on paper. Some work after the previous event, and succes this event. The limp flipper syndrome was gone completely. And then some. Flips are impressive. The arena roof ain't a lucky hit anymore. Drive kept consistent. Unfortunatly after a gruesome -but won-fight with PulveR, the flipperarm needs some extensive repairs or even replacement, the relatively thin HDPE armor has some sprung welds, but the crosswelds and woodscrews are savers there.

Nebelwerfer 1.3. Weapon was relatively weak, but shows promise. Drive was the main failure. The main axles kept on unscrewing. And we forgot the "glue". So, I'm hopefull next weekend will give us succes. As we travel to Germany for the next MMM.

                        Valkiri.
The Polycord Obelt drive has an inherent flaw, adding 2 PTFE guiding blocks partialy solved that. Stil not convenient to replace the belt after each fight. Also, the weapon didn't pan out at all. RPM was way lower than calculated and top speed only 1/4 of what was expected. Amp draw was low too. Even with the 15% smaller main poullie.

Unfortunatly, the last fight with Pulver destroyed 1 of the "skids", and lacking the right repair facilities we tried a test run in the arena. Result, the 2 skids now resemble something inspiring Escher.

End result. The endfight of the day was Hannibalito 3 against Hannibalito 4.
For the first time H4 won that, even with a flipperarm bent and buckled.

In any case, here you have the photo's in slideshow.
