Seminar 2: Lipos
Our second seminar will be all to do with batteries, specifically Lipos. Grant has a vast knowledge and experience of using lipos in all sorts of applications, from small rx packs to large helicopter packs Grant has been dealing with lipos for many years. He will be covering the benefits and pitfalls of using lipos as well as how to choose the right battery, correct charging, how to know when things are going wrong and what preventative measures we should make when using lipos in combat robots. Its sure to be an enlightening talk with important information which everyone using lipos, or thinking of, can learn a great deal from.

Seminar 3: Pneumatics
Im really pleased to announce Kane Aston will be performing a seminar about pneumatics. Kane's experience & knowledge of pneumatics is up there with the very best. Having succeeded with Behemoth both on TV and for many years after, Kanes reliable and effective engineering methods and pneumatic secrets have propelled veteran robot Behemoth through the competition.
This seminar hopes to assist in 2 ways. For people who are either complete beginners or novice teams that would like to take the set up to producing their first pneumatic robot both reliably and safely. We also want to assist veteran teams who have been using pneumatics for some time. Kane has a wealth of knowledge to help teams truly understand how to get the most out of their pneumatics and how to do it reliably as well as giving us some insider info on how Behemoth has stood the test of time so reliably.
On Sunday we will also be doing a CO2 refill session for those wanting to make the step up to high pressure pneumatics.
I am very much looking forward to hearing what Kane has to say and hope his information proves valuble to both beginners and veterans alike.

Just working out the overall costs of the trip as we speak, need to have a look at what's needed for the bots at the weekend before knowing for sure though. If I do come, I'll try and get enough time off to facilitate arena assembly/dismantling.
What are peoples' thoughts on accommodation? Just been looking into/working out costs based on various Premier Inns.Comment

Seminar 4: Designing to inspire
Im really excited about this one!
I started this super sport because I was inspired to learn engineering and get involved by seeing my favourite robots on TV, I wanted to do what they did. Like the majority of us it was my favourite robot Razer that really spurred me on. As a fan it was the most awesome thing I had ever seen, the way it moved, the way it crushed robots, the way it had character. I was very fortunate to be invited to join Team Razer as an apprentice when I was young and it wasnt long before I realised Razer was an awesome machine, but just a machine. Inspiration soon turned from the robot to the people behind the robot. It has always amazed me the designs and thought process behind Team Razers creations and the way Ian and Simon go about building things of all kinds of nature.
It is my pleasure to announce that Ian Lewis will be running a workshop at our Robo Challenge Open Day on thinking creatively to inspire others. When I spoke to Ian about this I think he was quite excited to share his ideas with everyone. Ian will delve into the depths of both Razers & Warheads design by going through the principals of the robots and where they find their ideas from. The aim is to share how to think out side the box both with visual characteristics of the robots and engineering techniques in order to inspire and enrol new people both in the audience and in the pits to continue, improve and push the boundaries of what can be done in our sport.Comment
