What are your thoughts on this event date being double booked? Roaming robots are doing an event, on the same days, quite nearby (reasonably) to this event, so which of these do you thick will be better?

Thanks Terry, I am glad somebody likes the idea, I have received mostly negative comments so far about my new link rules.

Just looked at the site ..what do you mean by link cover rules Terry?

Roger: Can you expand on what the complaints have been?

3.1.1 i) All robots must be fitted with on-off switches/or removable links that operate both radio receiver and drive/weapon circuits - in practice totally removing all power from the robot.

ii) If there is more than one isolating device, these must be positioned adjacent to one another.

iii) The main power cutoff MUST be a removable link (See Technical Sheet No. 4.) which must NOT be in place unless the robot is in the arena or under the supervision of a technician. A key or switch is not allowed.

iv) The link must be positioned in a visible part of the robot€™s bodywork, fitted away from any operating weaponry or drive, and this position must be clearly marked.

                        v) The link may be fitted under a cover, but the cover and link must be able to be removed by a simple pull action.
A rope or cord loop must be fitted to the outside of the link cover. Pulling on this loop must cleanly remove the cover and link.
The cover, if fitted, must be painted red and contrast well with the surrounding bodywork panels.

Tom they want to be able to snag the link assembly with something like a long boat hook and yank it out...

A sensible idea for this sort of event... in my opinion.

Woody, that is exactly the idea of this link rule, to allow remote removal of the link in an emergency without going too near to a belligerent robot.

If you want to enter your robot at this years Robots-at-War and it is not possible to modify the link in time then contact me.

Were a double sided double flipper so there are not many options for link/cover placment. The back of the robot is the only sesable place where its going to be able to be pulled whicheverway up we are. The thought of aproaching our bot to pull the link if its misbeheaving scares me to death. As there is the chance that it could choose that moment to flip itself back into me. Being able to disable from the distance of a long pole I think is a much better idea.
