    Roaming Robots / Robot Rampage, Newark 19th / 20th June 2004

    Kevin,

Are you responsible for registrations? Is there still room to add Hard to the Newark list?

Hard is back up and running, improved drive system (read : wheels), new (home built) HP valve, buffer tank, RC interface (our own !)...and of course wed like to test this out...on whoever wants to see his robot fly....

    Cheers,

    Frank

Yep, Im in charge of applications. At the moment its just a provisional list, but Ill soon be sending a newsletter with full details and request for official applications.

Ill post here when that happens - so keep checking back to make sure Ive not missed you out.

Robot Rampage 2004 will be bigger and better than ever - as this time weve got the entire hall just for Roboteers (so loadsa space for displays & merchandise where the static modellers used to be).

Weve got soo much space that everybody whose listed to date should be assured of a place (provided you confirm your application promptly).

My biggest worry is that excess number of teams = less arena time per robot = unhappy campers

Now if any of you want to leave your robot on display and simply come for the social - then thats fine by us

Talking of social - this will be the usual mix of BBQs & Beer - except this time its seperate barrels for the Fri & Sat nights.Bad weather simply moves us to the hall for some real live entertainment

Roaming Robots will be providing their usual high standard of Tx control and general competition management, and Ive agreed with Jonno that well run Whiteboard + a Full Combat event as well

What more can we say, except check out my profile for a poster.

      Cheers,
      Kevin S.

Fans are still welcome without a robot, but have to pay to get onsite (unless youve persuaded me youre a big enough groupy to earn a pass).

Display robots still earn a weekend pass for 1 car & occupants.

For obvious reasons the hall is divided between roboteers and spectators - but there is plenty of interaction accross the fence, and will be displays and merchandise on crowdside.

Loads more to see and do at the car show - so its a real good day out

Is the pass for being allowed to join up with the roboteers backstage, after the days action etc. or just for turning up and watching the show?

Ive never been to a live event before so I dont know whats what, and Ill need to know before I plan the trip.

(btw, what do you have to do to be a big enough groupy?)

This event is different to most in that people pay at the Showground Gates to see Kit Cars, Trade Stands and Auto Jumbles - and our Robot Rampage is side show held within one of the halls (at no additional cost).

Most exhibitors (which includes roboteers) camp onsite and drink their club beer around their club club bbqs. After the public have gone home, theres a nice family atmosphere across the grounds - and big social in a great clubhouse.

Showground passes are given to exhibitors via the club or association that they represent. They are per car + all ocupants and worth about £15 for the weekend (daily rate is a little more).

A neat way to get in cheap is to arrive in an unusual (special) car. These + 1 occupant are given free entrance on the gate and encouraged to park within the display areas.

Robot spectators are invited to hunt us down and hang in our hall as long as you want. Youll not be allowed pitside unless you have a seperate Roboteer pass (allocated by Roaming Robots when you book in a working or display robot). Mail me direct if you dont have a robot - but want to camp over.

                          Now - as for defining a Groupy . . . .

So basically Id have to pay in at the Showground gates (how much is it?) and then I can watch the battles, do that pay-to-drive thingy if I want and hang out in both halls (roboteer and spectator), but not the pits.

(as Ill be coming as a member of the public - unless being a diehard fan and forum regular says otherwise... - and stay overnight somewhere in the town)
