i must admitt i have looked at mentorns web site and im sure if they was any news it would be there, assuming that it would be the same production company that would do it.
face it we would all like to see it come back but i think it unlikely that it will happen as nice as it would be.
but at least the program started off a new craze in this country that lives on in the way of live events and shows, and long may it continue.
There is a good reason for not showing robot fights live and that is the necessary delay in proceedings when we arm up/down. It just doesnt make good TV. Also it would have to be a VERY large event to sustain enough interest during such lull periods if you are going to walk a camera around the pits.
I think it would be a great help if Channel 4 picked it up as they always seem to do well with that sort of show. Things like Scrapheap and Full Metal Challenge are good examples (although there hasnt been a second series of FMC since)
i think what may of been ment by showing fights live (forgive me if im wrong) was, showing live events ( which for the purpose of tv would be edited to show the much loved action sequences. rather than literly live as it happens stuff.
youll forgive me if i stay abit negitive about it returning to tv, its not that i dont want it to, just that if i stay a bit negitive i can only be suprised rather than let down .
i think that who ever was to pick it up and carry on would need the actual Robotwars name other wise it could be like starting from scratch from a reputation point of view. and i for one dont know who now owns the trade mark ???
Robot Wars is still listed on the Mentorn website along with all their current programs. You would think that if they werent planning on making new series then they would remove it from the list....
Here to add some spice to the whole thing,
the BBC took the House Robots away from Chris R a few days ago. Their either up to something or, just taking them away from him as he charges them storage.
As far as taking the robots from Chris R, most likely its for cost reasons, or it could be that they can make money themselves from exhibiting them, or.....a new series of Dr Who is being filmed at the moment so you never know.
