  • Battlebots in the UK?

Ive been sent an email from the robogeddon chaps about Battlebots coming to the UK. I presume they are trying to do some research for Battlebots themselves (?). Anybody know anything more?

    Heres the email -

    Dear Roboteer

Since you have played Robogeddon we thought you might be interested in Battlebots and the chance to bring it to the United Kingdom

In case you don€™t already know, Battlebots is very similar to Robot Wars but is the American version - It hasn€™t run in the UK yet but there is a good chance it will if we can show there is interest. We are currently talking to them about this and hope to get this fantastic sport back on our screens as soon as possible - Battlebots will be bigger than Robot Wars!

Please go to http://www.roadshow.robogeddon.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4http://www.roadshow.robogeddon.com/f...asp?TOPIC_ID=4 to register your interest and join in the forum. You will need to register first but we suggest that you use your robot name and password that you use for the Robogeddon Roadshow. Your views matter so please let us and Battlebots know!

I presume they want to know if theres any public interest in bringing robot combat to our screens, so the more that post on their forum, the better!

I used to watch battlebots on Trouble (Sky ) late at night . It was great and would be very enjoy for it to be in the UK ! I wonder if they will they have it in the same format e.g you get to see the whole wide spectrum of robots from the little to the big ?

Of course there is interest in bringing Battlebots to the UK as much as there is interest in reviving Robot Wars for TV.
Actually achieving it is something quite different.
In other words dont hold your breath until youre armed up in the arena and they say activate

Bring on BB, thats all I have to say. It would be great to have a robotic show in the UK again. Something to add a bit of zazz to the viewing schedule.

Hmmmmmm, this is where I would exercise caution over the whole thing. Trey Roski is essentially a TV Exec looking to revive his BB format. He is backed up by money (millions of $worth) and the same amount of legal muscle. We have got to a point in the UK where we are bringing control back to the roboteering community. Call me a pessimist or reactionary if you like but I can see the whole thing going up the swannee by this one person having the TV format, the money and the legal might to take over completely and the means and methods to use them making anyone who opposes him consigned to hell.

that is one line of thought, but we have all moved on since the demise of robotwars. it stopped but we still continued doing what we do best, i cant see how excactly they could take over compleatly in terms of what we do, it is after all another game format for somthing that already exists and it will never stop the live events.

the only thing i could see it doing for us is getting the sport back in the media which would encourage more people to get into it and the different weight classes, and keep the sport growing in popularity.

basically at the end of the day he wants a great tv show and we want to promote our sport dont we ? so by working together maybe we can make great things happen for us all.
