  • Active Heavyweight Robot Survey

I remember back in series 5 of Robot Wars there were around 120
Robots taking part in the Tv series and to my mind there couldn't
be much more that that number in the whole country-after all there
were no live events as far as I'm aware and some may disagree but
I believe this time was the height of popularity and interest in heavyweight
    Robot Combat.
So by means of a survey -though with a 30 % inaccurate degree -
possibly, I thought it would be interesting to find out how many Active
Robots exist at this time 2017.
So the 40 Robots on the last series of Robot Wars is my starter and
names I know from the live circuit I will include........
    kan opener,stinger,storm2,ripper,mega mouse,dantomkia.
Brings the total to 46-so if you have an active Robot and I mean a
Robot you could enter in an event within a week of tweeks I would
be gratefull if you could add your Robots name to the list here
and a recent picture if you can.
I know in the robot section you can see if a Robot is active
but Im not sure if it gives an accurate record.

would be better to ask how many Teams are running heavyweights as that might give a better comparison

There's a section on the robot wars wiki for robots that are still competing today, that'll be a headstart. Next, I'd go on the roaming robots website to add any robots not on the wiki. After that, I would ask around the forum or check the box next to people's names for any "[insert robot name here]HW". I wouldn't trust the forum section, though; it looks like it hasn't been updated in a long, long time. Hope this helps.

That section confuses me, some of it looks like it hasn't been touched for a few years, then some pictures (such as Thor's) appear quite recent.

They have TMHWK on there with the new photo, but I think that's the most recent one. I think they need an update, or perhaps this survey can be used for it, and maybe a featherweight section (it's a bit pointless to say every robot is a heavyweight if they're only going to include those), but that may be too large given how many there have been and no wiki pages on them for specs.

The other thing is that a lot of the old Fan Fav heavies were bought up by the event organisers, and are used as "filler inners" at different events. What you see on the live circuit may only be 10% of what people have in storage that just need charging etc.

Good point Dave, I'm thinking that most roboteers that have built a heavyweight robot
also know about the FRA and its quite easy to tick a box say on this thread to say
yes I have one or two or more Active Robots, without Stats Its just pure guesswork-
I may pluck a number out of fresh air based on the information available which could
              include.......
Possible Robots that attended the latest robot wars auditions
Roboteers that have Active heavyweights but failed to acknowledge
100 % Known Active Robots for tv or live events
And who is to say the figure will be wrong

I re-read my comment and it sounded negative and I didn't mean it to at all. I think EO owned heavies are active to a point, but it's not like there is a team behind them still evolving the design. So in terms of "Active Heavies" I think you're right in that you should only be including heavyweights that are currently out and about regular on the telly or the live scene.
