  • size limitations

    Evening all!

I'm in the process of designing 3 robots. I know there are weight limitations but are there limits on the size of a robot (length, height ect) or can it be as big or as small as you like provided the weight is fine for the class of robot. The classes I chose to work with are beetle weight, feather weight and heavy weight.

As far as the current rules are, there is no size limitation on those classes.
Ants is the only class with the 10*10*10 cm limit.

The old Mentorn rules gave 2m length, 1.4m wide and an unspecified height as limit.
If you're designing that large, it is very very interesting.

I'm working towards a fairly large design for the heavy weight. Been advised to start with a beetle weight first to find my feet. Got a design planned but the 3kg weight limit means good armour could be a problem

You might want to double check the rules below. Its 3lb, rather than 3kg (assuming thats not a typo, its a reasonable redesign needed). Also the weight limit allows for decent relative armour. Its just you cant build a chassis as close to the weight as you like, keep the components light and that all goes towards your final armour weight.

Remember anything not in the rules means its free reign. If no size limit is stated, then there is no size limit. Also if your willing to throw your first effort away, then dont worry about weight. Just learn the skills you need to make the robot, then start again when you get the hang of it in order to make a competitive robot.
