What do you all recommend I'm building a beetle/featherweight at the moment any tips or help? Thanks

Welcome to the club. First off settle on a weight category. Beetle and Feather are worlds apart in terms of the parts they use.

Second read through all the threads in your chosen weight category. There are dozens of starter threads that other people in your position have started. Read the build diaries section and find machines in a similar weight category.

Third, if you can then get along to a live event. There is nothing like seeing the machines in the flesh to understand the details involved and to speak to people in person.

Do they do events in the northwest like Liverpool?

Featherweights world championships takes place in Birmingham, and several Beetleweight events take place in the north.

Otherwise theres also heavyweight events with feathers tagging along - however i rarely tend to attend these so cant say much for them.

A pair of Argos electric screwdrivers, at £7 each, make a good drive train for a first beatleweight.
