  • Rules around motion

Are we allowed to build robots that only have say one wheel drive? Or that only go forwards and backwards? Or can only spin etc?

The rules state translational motion, which entails by whatever means a machine must be able to turn left or right, though not necessarily on the spot. A backwards and forwards machine would be not allowed but a machine that stops on one side like a golf trolley. A translational spinner, which slows its wheel when it is on a side of the spin, would be allowed. A car drive mechanism would be allowed. Etc.

If you are thinking about a melty brain spinner much like the one I have the basic chassis and electronics for sale for (SHAMELESS PLUG) then yes that is allowed. Can you give more details as to what you have in mind?

Erm, meltybrain, one wheel overhead thwack bots that just run about causing pandemonium, just all sorts of stuff really. Wheels in strange positions, just some different stuff to the bricks and spinners I keep seeing (which are awesome but I'm rubbish at building). Also want to see if a gaffa tape beetle can survive spinners, would a feather based on test toaster 1 be awesome...and so on lol.
