Mulit voltage guitar pedal power supply

After a little bit of help here, I run a few pedals on my board as well as a wireless unit. My pedals all run at 9V but my wireless runs at 12v. I'm wanting to run them all off a single power supply but the multi-voltage ones you can buy commercially are quite expensive so wondering if there was a cheaper method of doing so

Pedals aren't usually particularly high power, so you could just make a daisy chain connector with a 1 Amp, 9 volt voltage regulator running off the 12V supply, giving you both the 12V and 9V lines.

So I'm better to go for a 12v supply and step down rather than 9v and step up?

Definitely; stepping up's a pain in the ass and/ or expensive. A 9 volt voltage reg and a capacitor or two should do the job fine... How many pedals you running on the 9 volt?

Currently just 3 but with the ones planned for purchase will end up being 5 then its just the wireless at 12v

What's the power rating of the 12V supply? Need to make sure it has enough power to drive all the pedals. If it's less than an amp, it might struggle..

Output of the 12v is 500mA

Hmm... well without knowing the power requirements of all the pedals, it's hard to say if that'd be enough, but it sounds a bit low... You got any other 12V power supplies lying around from some old bit of tech?

If its more trouble than its worth then I will have to buy one, just seems a bit much having to spend £100ish on a power supply

Yeah; a 1A 9v voltage reg is about 20p :L

Exactly! I would rather do it that way than spend tons on a power supply
