just wandering do gyros have to be positioned between the motors/wheels or can they sit anywhere in the bot

Its been a while since I looked into gyros - I recall that the gyro should be centred between the wheels and its best to have it on the centre of rotation of the bot. Keep in mind that the cheaper piezo gyros calibration drifts with temperature, so its best to isolate them from anything hot.

ok well i have a piezo 01t gyro which im gonna try but it will have to sit about 50mm forward from the center point between the wheels so its not crushed by the actuator so hopefully it wont case to much of a problem

Basically echoing what Nick said, although it's mounted about 20mm behind the rotational axis in Satanix. It's close enough

so as long as its central between the wheels then you can get away with it being either forward or behind the central point ..... yay it might work and i can have scruffy back to 4s like the first version so more ramming speed and power

The gyro in Gonzales is back and way off to one side and it has a hugely beneficial effect, I don't notice any tendency towards one side or anything, seems happy enough.

put it anywhere and it should work fine

True Ellis, but I prefer it central

The further away from the rotation axis you put it, you'll have to turn down the sensitivity or it will over-correct the smallest movement (think of it like it being on the end of an arm, pivot being far down one end).

Only issue I ever had with the gyro is I turned the sensitivity up too far, and it got 'the shakes'; every minor move sideways, it corrected too much, then corrected back, and so on and so forth. Looked like it was shaking in fear being in the ring with 360 at the time was a coincidence )

ok well i have lots of time to experiment ... as long as it goes in a strait line

Shouldn't make any difference, just don't end up with it a) upside down or b) pointing the wrong way. If it is, just wait for the batteries to run out

you can get an on/off switch inline with the gyro…if nothing else its a good safety device… when i had a gyro in turbulence it went crazy a couple of times in testing… was very glad of the switch then!

I'd be curious to know what one would do in 720 when it does it's dance
