  • TURNIGY 6X Transmitter/receiver

Anyone had any experience using the TURNIGY 6X Transmitter at all? Seen one for a decent price, (£50) and I was wondering whether it's best to get one instead of a Spektrum DX5e (which I've seen for about £70 with receiver) or whatever. I know the Spektrum has the more reputable name behind it, but I thought I'd best ask for advice instead of potentially wasting money! Thanks in advance

Also, I've seen the Orange RX from Hobbyking too which looks pretty decent but the P&P pushes the price up quite substantially, so it makes it about as much as a DX5 anyway...

The transmitter is something I feel you should never skimp out on. People spend hundreds if not thousands on the robot and then drive it a round with a poor quality transmitter & receiver. Do it properly and get a Spektrum. A 5E is fine but it will make using it on multiple robots a bit of a pain. 6i has issues with some ESC's like the Hacked TZ85A (There is a solution for that).

It depends what you want from the receiver; number of channels and types of input. Even if you went and bought a DX7 ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SPEKTRUM-D...-/360827706687 ) If you build 3 robots, the cost per robot drops to £46. And given you may own an Ant, 2 Beetles and possibly 2 Feathers in the long term its not a bad idea.

Note: That is the lowest O have seen a DX7 in a long time! £140 for that is very good!

Agree, the transmitter is something that will last for many robots and its worth spending that little bit extra

Yeah, it's definitely a good idea to get one that's decent, I've got a GiantShark budget one which is functional but I need one with better features, more reliability and all that! I have a fair few machines now, got about 12 different half-beetles built up (Uni project) but I don't mind swapping the receiver about between them where I need to

Would the DX5E be alright overall? The one I've found has an AR600 receiver packed in with it, which I believe has a failsafe, but I'm not sure on its appropriateness in this use...

I'd love to get a DX7, but unfortunately I just don't have the money for one at the minute... Definitely something I'll look into in the future, but £100 for a handset is really my absolute limit, given the planned upgrades to HardWired II as well... thanks for the help though!

A DX6i also has multi robot capabilities and very good features and can be purchased new for £70-£80,

The DX5e does fail safe depending on the receiver that you use. In Endeavour we use a AR500 receiver and it failsafe's perfectly. Also its a good starting point but in the long term its better to go for something like DX6I or Orange T-six that has model memory. I think I'm personally going to replace my DX5E with an Orange in the not so distant future

I see... I've had a look at the DX6i and T-Six and they seem fairly decent, but a tad pricey as far as postage/adding receivers goes... Hobbyking Postage for me ends up at something like £30 and makes it just that bit too expensive for my budget and the DX6i's that I've found on ebay all don't come with a receiver so again knocks it just out of my price range annoyingly...

Would it be a big loss to not have the extra features like model memory from the other transmitters and opt for this £70 DX5e w/ AR600 receiver instead?

              Thanks for the help too!

It depends entirely on how many robots you are going to have and run. If you are running two robots at the same time you will need two transmitters any way!

For starting off with your first robot however, I would have said that the DX5e (or higher) would be your safest bet

Well, I have multiple robots but they're non-competition Beetleweights or below which I have my GiantShark cheapy kit for - this is really my only featherweight since HardWired I's pretty much scrap parts now! If it's alright, then that's fine - thanks for the help! I'll get that ordered then
