I fine the scorpions fine, they are very versitile, good precision controlers. But they are a little fragile, not from the current, they survive fine from that (high current, and thermal cut outs) but it's the majour impacts, and contact with debris that cause the damage, so if you shock mount them, and put them enclosed in something, eg a metal box (metal for good heat distribution) or just makesure you robots enclosed. And if you buy them from demention engineering, they thay can easily be repaired or replaced if damage does occur. And electronises are also good (and cheaper) but the control isn't so precise, and there is only a fuse rather that a high current cut out. So if a big motor stalls, with electronises your out of the battle, where as with sabertooths you continue driving after the high current cut out has finished doing its thing.
other options.
a few roboteq kicking about for sale. they are more heavyweight though.
banebots do speedos but import taxes are like double the price.
scorps/sabretooth/electronize all seem very popular.
