  • Live display and possible running event?

my local school has approached me about doing a live display for primary school children to get them interested in science (their words) and say that if i had the correct insurances etc that they would love to have me yet im not too sure what is needed etc, if anything for a static display and just a little drive around the playground?

any ideas as they would be thinking of doing this during the spring/summer term and have asked me to get back to them asap

For a static display I doubt you'd need any insurance (as long as there are no sharp edges), for a live display, it would probably depend on what type of bots you're running, what weapons, and the area that it would take place in. If it's just a small drive around the playground, keeping everything a safe distance away, I don't think it would be too much of a problem. Just guessing here really, but insurance is a risky area, you need to make sure everything is correct otherwise it can have quite bad consequences.

i dont mind coming along if u need help but for all th esafty i would make a arena like iron fence wer ethe people stand behind and thne netting infront of that and maybe some policarbe housing of some sort

at the secondary school there is a large tarmac area with a ball couren next too it that has a very lage mesh fence which may be suitable

If they've asked for insurance, you'll need it, which will be hundreds ££. You will also need all the paper work such as risk assessments. You have to be careful when running them around without arenas, done it many times for display/demo, just dont start fighting, as thats a different ball game. Check out the FRA event guidlines.

I'll have to look into it further as just a bit of driving about would be fine and a little demo of the weapons etc just firing them, but not at other bots

What bots and weight classes are you using?

Re: Live display and possible running event?

Totally forgot to reply to this:

I ask what bots because you'll want to avoid things that could go bang, so I would recommend no pneumatics or hydraulics, also because they take a while to prepare and kids get bored easy. Probably need a designated area outside if your gonna demo them too, don't want to cause any damage to council property by smashing a hole in a wall/floor. Obviously that area would need to be kept clear of kids, and if you can get any other who know about bots and how to activate/deactivate them then all the better.

Common sense has to prevail really for me, if you can think of an possible way that anyone could get hurt, don't do it. If the school has a room overlooking the playground they can stand in while you demo any bots you think might be dangerous that might be an even better suggestion.

                        Goes without saying, no spinners.

This is just my suggestions on what is sensible, but the FRA may feel differently and advise you to do something else.

Let an eo do it as they know how to and it will be safe.
If you want to do it I would say static only with laptops showing utube
Fights. Sorry it propably sounds boring but safe.

it would be but it does sound like the best option
